MCG to host GF through to 2057

Agree. No matter how much you practice something, there’s no accounting for shitting the bed on the biggest stage.

Hopefully the AFL will give you guys some more games at the g against home tenants.
Well yeah - hawthorn would be nice - 3 games a season is possible

Hopefully between the 3 games we might get one opportunity to play a top 8 club instead of the usual celkar dwellers

It's very similar to the G, 1 metre shorter and 4m narrower.

No, I suggested you and the other people whinging on here go and buy it. Not every single wc supporter, that obviously wouldn't work, I'm not an idiot. Just like those tips I gave on getting a cheap GF ticket, obviously no longer valid if 30k people go an do it, but you know what, they won't go and do it, because people would rather wait until GF week then piss and moan about it. Those tips got me into GFs for many years until my Gold AFL Membership finally came through. You really think that I think every Eagle supporter should buy a flight just in case? Lol. Post that on facebook lol.

Lol facebook, that's lower than A Current Affair on the credibility scale. Did you dub some scary sounding music over it?
Just so im 100% certain you are serious

You are suggesting we become experts at beating a top 8 victorian team at the mcg by beating sydney at the scg - who have a completely different game plan to richmond -

The most likely opponent if we made a gf

You literally cant make this shit up.

The last time sydney met tiges at the scg tiges lost by about 100 goals

You would think all that practise on the mcg would make the tigers invincible on the scg

I wonder what happened?

With the redevelopment of the AFL reserve, I wonder if the AFL will bring in a new membership structure or grandfather the existing AFL membership and let it slowly die off over the next 30-40 years. One option is to make AFL membership access to the G similar to access at Etihad. Gets you into any game but GA - as opposed to taking up a whole grandstand on the wing.

Unlikely given the revenue it beings in.

So you concede you were wrong about the SCG being similar dimensions to the G?

Richmond were crap that year they lost by 100 goals, I remember we beat them twice at the G that year by something like 10 goals, not to mention the Swans were great.

Also not sure you understand what the word 'literally' means.

M8 my advice is do what I did n walk away from AFL n follow your local Australian Rules side. There’s less politics n grubby back room deals. It’s a hellva lot more enjoyable and cheaper.

I follow a league that has a full home and away fixture, rotates the grand final as well as the the semi finals. I get to stand in the changerooms n watch em belt out the song, go onto the field at 1/4 & 3/4 time to listen to coaching instructions etc

I’d never dream of having the AFL as my main intake of Australian Rules anymore.

Just like a lot of other people AFL is virtually dead to me. If I want to watch a scripted pantomime I’d watch WWE, atleast they can actually produce performers with a bit of character when they talk.

Ps the jokers on here that will come back with their illiterate, illogical and childish trolls don’t bother trying because I won’t be replying. I have better things to do.

That may be the case but I was talking about you and the other posters on here. You're not going to get much respect on here when you continue to misrepresent what people have said, same as that crap about being no advantage at all playing the GF at the G, very few people have said that, and definitely not me. Then you go and paste your misrepresented stuff on facebook.

Moving an extra 15-30k people across the country in a couple of days with less than a weeks notice is very difficult to do cheaply from such a remote location as Perth. Airlines don't have many planes and resources sitting around idle these days. Part of the reason for the expensive flights is that any extra planes that are put on the route will be flying back to Perth 3/4 empty to pick up the next load, or sitting idle in Melbourne. Hopefully the AFL and Virgin can throw in some cash and help subsidise flights in the future to help keep the fares at a reasonable level. It may cost a few million when Eagles/Freo make it but it would be nice to do. Maybe you should lobby your clubs and the AFL to do this rather than making shit up on social media. With the 2057 deal just announced, now would be the perfect time to push for something like this.

Leadership comes from the top. This idea should have been forefront of the Amateur Football League and implementated and not thought out by people on a social media forum.

You won’t get this type of idea from AFL media shills. No it’s supposed to come from leadership.

Lastly why don’t people from Melbourne clubs just admit it’s a slight advantage and yes it’s great that a lot of money will be put into Victorian grounds but the real reason they love the idea of the game staying at the MCG is the advantage to Melbourne clubs in a GF if they play a non-Victorian club.

This is the type of pantomime Ive talked about.

I should also add it’s the same for non-Victorian clubs. It’s not about seeing GF or taking mum n dad it’s really that they could end up with the gf in their home state and if their side makes it they get an advantage.

Ps I know the argument will be “but in your league you follow you could get the same advantage”. The answer is no because the GF n semi finals venues are not decided till a week or 2 before the season starts thus it’s pretty damn difficult to load up on recruits if one of the finals are scheduled at your venue.

The richmond thats been fine tuning it week in week out with games against the best teams in the comp?

Thats why its called a home ground advantage

The best teams get very good at playing their home grounds.
Why do basketball teams have a home ground/court advantage? They play on identical courts in closed stadiums?

Well it’s obvious. In AFL it’s that your opponent is traveling to different facilities than they are uset to and also having to deal with different ground dimensions. So the home advantage would be bigger in AFL than basketball.

So following that it would safe to assume that MLB has the bigggest home ground advantage of all American sports, baseball parks are different sizes.

NFL would be next, as although the ground is same dimension some are indoor v outdoor, Astroturf v real grass and different sizes stadiums etc.

MLS would be next, can be small changes in ground dimension and different sized stadiums and conditions.

NBA and NHL are indoor, with same dimensions so minimal home ground advantage.

But American studies show NBA to have the biggest home court factor, with baseball the least!

Here is a good summary of the book scorecasting that has taken a closer look into some of the myths around home ground advantage

Thats the whole crux of it.

It was already in place till 2037 - there was no need to pre-emptively strike like this.

Before we could even make an argument for our case - it was closed down - in 2037 i will be 68

In 2057 chances are ill be dead. If not ill be 88 and even going to a perth gf may well be beyond me.

It was a deliberate move to shut us out in our lifetime. Without any of the public thoughtballoons that the afl throw up for everything else

It was a deal behind closed doors.

Prior to yesterday i had a pretty strong hope that one day the VFL would become a truly national sport.

It isnt now - its the vfl with some outsiders let in because it had to in order to survive

We see it all the time - things like when fremantle are the only team ever to have to play the cats at the cattery in a final.

That has never happened to a victorian team.

When essendon deliberately systematically dope their players and the afl does everything it can to get them off - the eagles have some players going off chops of their own accord - we are threatened with everything including deregistration.

When they changed the father son eligibility rules so we missed out on players

We have too many teams to make a profit in melbourne - send some to tassie etc - send the teams with the largest travel burden - on even more flying - for the years before direct flights

The media never mention the essendon thing any more - its like its dead - but the eagles 2006/7 drug saga is like it was yesterday - its the only sort of coverage we get in the national footy media.

Eagles in a grand final - better drag daniel chick up.

Never mind injunction club.

Was watching a show on fox footy yesterday - the only story of note about interstate clubs was unsurprisingly - spp

All in all - it takes its toll - this was a complete slap in the face to ALL interstate supporters

You want to watch your team in a grand final - its gonna cost you at least $5000 and more - if you are lucky - you will play another interstater (which will push the airfares up even higher)

If you arent - you will play an mcg tenant whos newest player has played more games on a ground you so rarely get to play that in his second season hes played more games there than your entire team put together.

They actually send us to play an mcg tenant in tasmania the same year we play in a grand final and have 1 lousy fkkkn game at the g

Till 2057 fcuk you very much
I am born in 1987. I will be 50 by 2037. I will be 70 (if I make it to that age) in 2057. I wouldn't be surprised if freo still hasn't got a maiden flag to be honest.:)

You may assume baseball would have that huge advantage but I wouldn’t. And if that study had included AFL, which it wouldn’t have, it would have shown that this sport would have a larger home advantage as I stated.

Lastly you’ve put all this up as fact so unless you show a link to back this up it’s just opinion.

One of the things that is so great about being an outsider looking in is that your eyes really open up to how hilariously the AFL is run as a “competition”. From fixture to a compromised draft to a grand final continually held at a select amount of sides home ground to not for profit organisation that is driven by profit to allow certain employees to gain extra money. It’s not a competition it’s a business manipulating outcomes to make the highest amount of money possible all the time expecting governments to contribute a considerable amount of money in the name of the community.

Anyway I’ve got more interesting things to do n have no interest in talking about this con job so bye n have a good day.

As a Crows supporter living in Melbourne for over 20 years i must say it is a very biased state. Not sure the answer currently but when i used to attend the games in Melbourne 15 years ago there was never ever any interstate umpires always Victorian (not sure if it is still that way) I stopped going as it was just to expensive to go and see a team get shafted very often at the G and seriously Adelaide were that good back then. Edwards Mccleod The Roo Goodwin etc.
I always thought the travel system was complete biased with interstate sides traveling more than Vic sides. The Salary cap for Sydney yet Victoria was the same as Adelaide and the excuse was living allowance yet Victoria is clearly less affordable than Adelaide it makes no sense. I at least hung onto the fact that one day the team i barracked for would maybe get a home grand final well i wont be around in 40 years so i will never see it. Do not care if anyone replies to this as i am now done with the AFL it is the most corrupt game in the world. I have now got rid of Foxtel i will not follow a game that is so helpful to one team and not another. And to all interstate people only if you stop going buying and supporting the AFL as a product it will never change. Thank god i bought a Pinball :)

Ive pretty much said all i have to say in this thread.

You vics can have your vfl.

Yes you will see me back if there are interstate teams in a gf - after the event - but aside from that im withdrawing from anything bar the eagles.

Enjoy your rigged sport.

Hope these help...
