apart from the bleedin obvious in 2007 that we simply couldnt win enough pill into F50 to score, we were exposed with a soft underbelly in defence with not enough players that liked a scrap or loved the contest. By the end of the season, I believe we found a few and one of those is Lukey Mcguane. Liked the way he went about his business, throws himself into contests, can take a grab and can read the play...He aint no mr magic when it comes to kicking the aggot, however there are enough dashers in the side that he can feed off.

Pick him , along side Thursty and Moore , he will pay his way as a 2nd or third tall defender:thumbsu:

Sorry Bo Bo, but there is not enough spaces in the side to play all these tall defenders: Bowden, Polak, Moore, Thursty and McGuane. I like McGuane too, but there isn't enough room for Moore and McGuane in the same team unless Moore forces out a small defender like Raines, McMohan, etc. out of the team. Plus Schultz and Rance might find themselves in the back 50 in future teams

I hope the OP last year is the reason why his kicking was so bad.

Otherwise he has 2 options:

1. Become a Prestigiacomo type Full Back

2. Get delisted/traded

Let's not forget how much people went on abuot Andrew Raines in his first good year, we all didn't care about his kicking but look at how we see him now.

The good thing for Luke is that there is a real chance of improvement in this area if he is injury-free :thumbsu:

Mcguane will go alright I reckon..... His kicking isn't that bad.

Then they should piss Raines off and put him in. We dont need Raines' up and unders anymore.
If our backline lined up like this tomorrow i'd be happy

King Thursfield Mcguane

Moore Bowden Mcmahon

...and maybe throw Polak in there as a loose man otherwise put him at CHF.

Regardless of where these players mention actually doesn't matter....

For the first time in a long time we have Depth down back, For the first time in 4 years I can see genuine Structure down back.
Bowden is a shoe in to continue the role he has been playing in the last three seasons, Thursfield No1 Backman then competition between Moore and Mcgaune for the third Tall, Polak can be used both ends of the ground and also as a back up Ruckman.

Our Key Position prospects are looking up.

Add to that Mcmahon and Newman on HB and Raines playing on players his on size our backline looks set for a good year.

I'm starting to get pumped up again.... :D

How could I forget the kingy....

So my Backs would be

Bowden Thursfield King

Mcmahon Mcgaune Newman

If we want we can replace Moore with Bowden and Play Bowden up the ground in spurts.

but everyone has tipped us to finish last and with the worst list in the competition, i dont subscribe to this for a minute though and think that with our full list to choose from we are going to be fairly strong this year.

The mere fact that we are happy to wait a season before we put cotchin on the field shows that we are building depth

Kingy will play more on the Ball this year i dont see him permenantly in the backline in our future he is a nasty little ****er around the ball and will give us that much needed thug factor at the stoppages.

I think its more he's still at Coburg fitness level at the moment rather than player standard after a short pre-season.

We are actually giving them time to get right this year, it's prety refreshing rather then ageing a clearly struggling player sucking it in after a short time.
