Doesn't help our depleted ruck stock when a quality ruckman for the opposition returns.

It may just be luck or the kangas really do function better without him, but after round 12 when Mcintosh did his injury, the roos were 5 wins 1 draw and 6 losses. Since his been sidelined, they are now 11 wins 1 draw and 7 losses.

None the less, a big task ahead for Clokey, Krooze and Hammo up against Mcintosh, Hale and Petrie. The impact their rucks have could well determine the fate of the match, especially Petrie who has been dangerous all year.

Hopefully though if our boys just create a good contest in the ruck, I'm sure our midfield can get on top of theres and be first to the loose ball, hense win the important clearances.

Carn the Blues.

bigger worry than him is who can man petrie up forward if he plays there with hale and mcintosh to ruck. Hes the kind of mountain we struggle with.

Jamo on Thompson
Waite on Petrie
Thornton on Jones

They won't play anymore than 3 talls in the forward line.

Thompson is in doubt with an ankle. A forward line of Petrie, Jones and Hale worries me more, as you'd think Jamo will struggle against the height of Hale (would have been an ideal match for Setanta).

i'd be happy to see that forward line. Would make running it out easier.

Corey jones worries me. Can see him kicking a bag. Cant wait for this game.

hopefully petrie plays CHF more than FF if he plays forward so waite can attack more.

I say this very delicately but perhaps you should consider keeping Saddington in the side one more week in lieu of the height of some of North's forward options?

If Bower's fit, he's an automatic selection over Saddington. Just as tall but can actually do something with it. Setanta's probably a week or two away, and Bannister's a long way off.

For all those people that say that Shaun Hampson isn't coming on, Hamish McIntosh.

For those that don't know the story of young Hamish, Hamish was literally a street light for three years. All this guy did was sit in a forward pocket at Port Melbourne for three years. Not an occassional run in the ruck, in fact I'm pretty sure he got a nose bleed if he moved more than 15 meters from the goal square.

Everyone criticised North for picking the guy so early and everyone was calling for him to be delisted. Then there was an injury crisis with the ruckman at North, so he played a half in the ruck at VFL level and did alright and the next week he played for North in the seniors and hasn't been out of the team much since.

Patience.

Better off playing him, he won't be fit enough and Big K can run him around.

They'll be dangerous with the tall forwards and the small quicks they have running around their feet.

You'd have to play army on thomas (#12??). Watched him on sunday and he provides them with a lot of run.

Still think if our midfield is on we are a massive show. They've got the nitty gritty midfielders who like the stoppages. We'd need to run it to break their zone, as they do a similar thing to Hawthorn and push you wide with the 15 man zone.

Is Hadley fit enough yet? Or another week in the 2's?

Hale can go down to the forward line as well

so they might be a little to heavy at stages

Not quite - he played a few games then was out for a year or so, but the jist is right.

Allegedly when he arrived at North he couldn't bench press 40kg and his stamina was non existant. (He can bench 135kg now,)

But yes - as the old saying goes ... big blokes take time.

Whether or not McIntosh plays is pretty much a non-issue in my eyes.

All year we've been weaker in the ruck than the opposition, but the strength of our midfield means that it doesn't really matter as they have roved off the opposition ruckmen. It's happened pretty much every week and I expect this week to be no different, regardless of whether or not McIntosh plays.

Also I can't imagine he'd be fully fit or match fit so that could be an added bonus for us.

Hamish dominated ruck in the VFL in 2005. He was close to the best ruckman in the league at that level, and had only cracked one senior game by the end of that year.

His first two years he was extremely unfit and it is true North people were calling it a mistake because his lack of fitness made him look disinterested. Laidley rode him harder than any player on the list to get him where he is. He would spend whole training sessions just running besdie Hamish making him push.

As for this game, I would be very surprised if Hamish and Thompson play (and disapointed - it would be a mistake from us). Training reports from the ther day suggest it will be Hamish that gets the nod, and I think you will find he will spend most of his time as a forward and only acting as a relief ruckman to Petrie.

So our forward line will set up

HF: Grant Hale Jones
FF: Campbell McIntosh Thomas

Hansen, McMahon, Boomer, Petrie will also rotate through.

Ed Lower will probably start as a forward as well and do a forward tackling role on your best rebounder. he has down some good jobs on Gilbee, Shaw Mcleod, Gilbee, Johnson.

Who do you guys rate as your best backline rebounding player?

Really surprising North are going to recall him through the seniors this week, given the amount of time he has spent on the sidelines. Would actually be a good thing if he did play - taking an underdone player into their team for a vital match.
