Andrew McLeod, Adelaide’s maestro midfielder, was a shock absentee from training at AAMI Stadium on Thursday, raising initial fears about his availability for Friday night’s clash with the Kangaroos at Telstra Dome.
McLeod was indisposed with a stomach virus, but Adelaide communications manager Phil Harper said the club was still confident he would play against the Roos.
He would be named in the 22 and his condition would be monitored closely before the Crows flew to Melbourne late Friday morning.
McLeod and centre half-forward Mark Stevens were the only training absentees among the 22 players from last Saturday night’s match against Port Adelaide.
Stevens had nearly half a cartilage trimmed from his right knee in an arthroscopy on Tuesday. Adelaide’s medical staff was relieved there was no other damage to the knee.
Stevens will be on crutches for a week and will be out of football for at least three weeks – more likely four.
Adelaide had 26 players training on Thursday. The six “new” players – those who missed the Port match – were James Begley, Nathan Bock, Michael Doughty, Kris Massie, Ben Nelson and Robert Shirley.
They have been in good form with their SANFL clubs – Begley and Nelson (Sturt), Bock and Shirley (Woodville-West Torrens), Doughty (South Adelaide) and Massie (Norwood).
