I guess my question is what the hell do you put on a meatball sub. I like them but everytime i get one i always go just meatballs and cheese no extra sauce or anything. I get strange looks from the people serving so i ask what do people usually put on them, but there seems to be no answer to this question. What do you put on them?

Am I the only one who feels ripped off if you don't get 'the lot' on whatever Subway sandwitch you order? It costs the same, so I don't see why people are so picky and only get cheese in addition to the main filling. I realise people have different tastes, but if you don't like salad-style stuff on sandwiches, I wouldn't think you'd be going to Subway in the first place.

Make one yourself. Or if theres any leftovers after spaghetti and meatballs from the night before, use the meatballs from that, sure it's not as convienient but it tastes better when you know 100% whats in it. Subway does taste good though.

I go back to the original question, other than subway where can you get one?

In Melbourne, you can't go past Misty's Diner. Run by Misty from Arizona I think, and the best authentic calorie fix of US food anywhere in OZ - including a magnificent "Smoked Meatball Roll". My personal fave is the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich washed down by a Dr Pepper!:thumbsu:

**** some of the stuff on that menu looks apetising. Shame I live on the other side of the country:(

Sorry for the late reply. Yes.

Would also like an answer to this question.
Would also like to know where I can get a good roast beef & gravy sandwich.
In the Perth metro area.

Homemade ones are a really quick and easy lunch item...stock up on baguettes, cook up a bunch of meatballs on a Sunday night in sauce with veggies, which takes all of 20 minutes, leave them sitting in sauce in a fridge, and you are set for lunches for the week, for about $15-20 tops.

It also used to be my item of choice on the subway menu but had a dodgy one a few years back, was horribly sick and have gone right off them.

I do have some strong views about the appropriate way to order a meatball sub, however, which I will now express.

- imo you need to pick salad which would go alright in spaghetti sauce or on a pizza. So yes to olives, onions, capsicum, jalapeños,and maybe pickles or spinach, no way to lettuce or carrot. Always have Mozzarella cheese and consider toasting the salad.
-no sauce, or hot chilli sauce is really the only acceptable option. If you ask for tomato or BBQ sauce with your tomato marinara meatball sub, you probably have some sort of learning disability.

On the health front, just switch to six inches. There are more than enough calories in a six inch sub to fill you up, especially if you load up with salad- footlong subs are really the classic binge item where if you ate slowly and stopped after halfway you would realise you are actually full. It's just that people tend to eat them so fast they don't have time to realise how much food they are taking in. Do yourself a favour, order six inches, and tell yourself you'll come back of another one if you're still hungry.

Meatball sub one of my favs at Subway, but i hate how particular they are in the amount of items they put on it. Certain amount of cucumber slices, cheese slices etc...
I'm an onion lover, and this so much. yeah onion thanks, here you go, 4 or 5 slices. wtf you can barely taste that shit.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they knew the exact amount of subs they've sold with a particular ingredient based on how much onion, cheese etc they've got left in the containers. :p Yeah it's terrible. I don't get it often enough to know if they would charge extra if you gently asked them "Could you throw a bit more on?" :D
