Medhurst comeback

medhurst could possibly be the most selfish (on field), overrated player we have ever had... i didnt like him when he was at the club, adn would be mortified if we even gave this 1/10th of a second's thought

Saw him wheel around and pass plenty of ball off from inside 50. Wouldn't call him hungry by any stretch, even though because of his ability, he would have every right to be.

hasn't medhurst been travelling for 12 months? he might be fit but hasn't touched a footy for twelve months, let alone a full game at WAFL/ VFL level. If we get Dawson(26) & Dick(23?) and the toasters get medhurst (29) and Leon (30) , I'd be pretty happy with the PSD.

I'd be picking up Leon before taking Medhurst.

30 years of age and a year out of footy, I'd rather throw a rookie lifeline to Dick who at 23 has a much bigger upside.

There are quite a few other names that I would rather have on board than Medders.

Medhurst guarantees us a father/son pick if he has a boy, nobody can tell yet whether Dick will last the distance.

Yep it's a gamble and our medicos and can do their thing but it is a risk.

The fact Collingwood were willing to re-rookie him, gives some faith that he aint a complete wash.

If and yes a big if ....he can stay fit, he would be a very good small forward option ...pretty good on the lead, good crumber, tackles hard and is certainly AFL quality.

Even if Medders comes off, you have what 2 seasons maybe 3 ....I'd rather go Dick or if that does not come off top up with youngsters.

Dick and Medhurst by all reports are huge injury risks, the main decision then perhaps is in the hands of the medicos on who they can turn around.

That said give me 1-2 years out of Leon over maybe getting the same out of Medhurst.

I agree with Dr Ralph Dagg's comment regarding BF's long held tradition of overrating draft picks, AFL's rating of the best players from each pick highlights just how rare a good player or even someone plays more than a handful of games is locating in the later draft picks.

Do adopted boys count... what if he doesnt like girls ;)

I know for a fact that Medders likes girls. I'm not aware of any infertility issue (apuchar, where does that come from?).

The father/son rule refers to a father, it doesn't specify biological father. I don't know if adoption has been tested.

Wouldn't matter if the son was adopted or not, there is no way the AFL would win an argument like that if push came to shove. They wouldn't even have the 'spirit of the game' argument to fall back on......unless the adopted son was adopted 1 day before the F/S bid lodgement.

I doubt the answer to that has yet been formed as a question.

Bastards, Surrogacy and sperm donation are still to have their time in the sun. Should get a bit of squirming TV before it's all soughted.

The new clear family outlook will be challenged for a long time yet.

could see him do a Chris Johnson (Brisbane) & move from being a flashy small forward to a small backman (like Davis, see it isn't that rare) where he could use his smarts & brilliant kicking to advantage.
at least he wouldn't have to be dropped prior to finals:D

I didn't say he had fertility issues Reg (how would I possibly know such a thing). The discussion was on whether an adopted son would count in the father and son rule. The poster mentioned what if the guy was gay and I mentioned infertility could also be an issue that may encourage someone to adopt. Among many other reasons.

Medhurst just doesn't strike me as the type to be happy playing in defence.

If we want to pick up a 30 year old with 1-2 years left, then it really is a no-brainer between Davis and Medhurst. Leon would be a far better acquisition.
