Great story about the Maxwell family;

MEET the Maxwell family and you understand why Nick Maxwell is captain of the Collingwood Football Club. You learn about a young man who dealt with rejection after rejection, how a family rallied around one of their own and how a kid with doubts grew to become a believer.
Lucy adores her brother, Erin loves her husband, and Mum and Dad idolise their son, not for being the Magpies skipper, but for being a caring, upstanding citizen.
The story of Nick Maxwell is told in fits and bursts and laughs - and sometimes tears.

AWWWWWWWWWW.:)

Look like his dad doesnt take shit from no one and always got his sons back (kinda like my dad at my games :o)

Maxwells dad reminds me of Tommy Lee Jones.

"You know I was pretty dark on Bomber Thompson that night," he said. "When Nick came home he was gutted. I'd still love to, to this day, see Nick holding up the cup and if he did, I'd take a photo and post it to all who doubted him."

Haha, this would be a perfect little mailer to send to The Cattery. Nice one :thumbsu:

I would actually say Bomber did the right thing by Nick, he had a guy called Tom Harley which would have effectively meant had the Cats drafted him, this year would have been only his first year of senior footy.

He got to go to Collingwood and the rest is history:thumbsu:

Great story! Very enjoyable read.

Story you would want to tell your children. Very worthy captain of our footy club and a truely great man for the character he has shown throughout his life to become who he is today.

was that picture taken in the 80's? In a house made for dolls???
That's what the houses look like down near Geelong.:p

Most "Geelongites" are still living 60's style, let alone 80's.:D

I would be embarrassed by this article if I was Nick Maxwell. The old man needs to gat over the fact his son got overlooked and focus on the player he is. He is proving to be a very good player but many players have been rejected and gone on to be great players and their old mans aren't out their bashing clubs about it. Remember Collingwood also rejected him 3 times before picking him up. Good on you Nick and good luck but put a muzzle on the old man.
