Would be good for confidence to get one win under the belt.

yes and No, should be under No illusions come round One whats required to get the points...cheap wins in march are really under false pretences..Ive seen Browny in pre season games before , it's like he's at the practise range:rolleyes:

Just got back from the game. Very disappointing, in particular our use of the ball and lack of run from our midfield. We're too stop/start, trying to hit a target, but not having the skills necessary. In the 1st quarter we didn't score a goal, but missed all from set shots within 25 metres of goal. Tuck turned it over at least 5 times in the 1st quarter with stupid handballs.

I now understand why TW plans on playing Richo at CHF. This was a massive hole for us. We pretty much used Pettifer as a leading CHF, but out wide, not down the guts. We're forced to zig zag and the Dees constantly had players back and easily ran it out. I'm not sure why Hughes wasn't tried at CHF??? Schulz looked good from the goal square, poor kicking though, he should have had 5 to his name.

Howat and Foley were good (Foley's disposal a little questionable at times). Raines excellent in defence, plenty of run and attack. Krak was in and under and at times dangerous (kicked 4 points I think). Bowden played full back on Neitz and tried nonetheless.

Tivendale gets the ball, runs to the left, dodges, runs sideway then backwards, turnover. Even when he kicks it a Tiger isn't on the end.

Moore went off with a slight ankle injury.

Jake King and Polak were serviceable.

Story of the day in my mind (from a Tiger perspective) ... we got plenty of the ball (if not more) but our poor usage of it and poor decision making results in us turning certain scoring opportunities into unnecessary turnovers, but playing a small half forward line doesn't give us many targets to hit.

good stuff man

what was the coaching like any new moves or just crap experiments?

LUKE MCGUANE FOR ROUND 1!

I read that Gas was actually very good, best game for the pre-season. McGuane dominated Miller :thumbsu:

Foley seems like he'll be our most consistent ball winnder. Good news on Polak again, seems to be fitting in well. On PRE they said, Gas, Bowden and Newman were great in saving some goals, they said we would have been flogged if it wasn't for them.

Interesting...I was just watching last night Russell Robertson saying the term 'rugby run' or something...where from the back line, the game is heading like a rugby run, linking handballs, with the aim to get just past the centre then long to deep in attack to hit a lead from the square and crumbers doing what they do best within 30 metres.

My thought was immmediately, plonk the big guy down in the square, with the new hands in the back rule, and with him being the best contested mark in the game, given lots of space there, with it coming quick like this, CHF gets bypassed, and the big imposing CHF is almost taken out of the game, a mark taken in the square and your dead in front...even Richo gets most from there! Sure it will frustrate him not roaming far and wide, and it puts pressure on everyone to get it down there to him, but assuming they are, and if he is kicking 5 + a game.....

Teams will just flood back like they always do. We'll kick to Richo wwho'll have 6 defenders on him and they'll run it out with no pressure and score instantly.

Suprisingly I think there was only 1 or 2 hands in the back calls all game, not many scores were from free kicks, there was even one paid in the Richmond Forward line against the Forwards!!!

well if there are 6 back on Richo, then the linking handball will continue to the 50 metre line and long specialist kickers will thump them through from there!

Noticed this at one point during the game as well and actually mentioned to one of my mates that this is how footy is played.

At one point it took about 20 kicks to get it to the forward line for a goal, it was on the wing and the Tiger boys just kept kicking it about 10 metres each time and we ended up with the goal, but it isnt great footy.

About two plays after that goal we had a very good running goal which was alot more like how footy should be played and hopefully we use that style more than the stagnate style, just need to improve our skills.

Interesting re: the Russell Robertson quote. Our big guys (Schulz & Polak) were plonked in the goal square for the first half. It was a midget half forward line and this forced us wide. I was really surprised with the setup, especially considering McGuane and Hughes were playing.

Polak up forward from the goal square was the surprise for me. Looked good, lead out strong, he's a very imposing figure.

Very Richo like!!!:thumbsu:

It seems to me like TW is using the pre-season to gain a better understanding of his side and what measures he can take in the event of injuries, suspensions etc.

We have not yet played a game with a genuine structure with a proper spine. Perhaps this is because some major KPP's are out. As a consequence, I think TW took the opportunity to experiment a little considering he couldn't apply our structure properly.
This could explain why our players round around in circles today, because they are not used to playing in those circumstances.

I think if injuries allow, next week against Collingwood will be a better reflection of the Tigers' style of play in 2007.

Sounds like we have been losing because Terry Wallace is a very good coach ;)

It actually makes a lot of sense too. He'll have the upperhand on someone like Pagan who has gone all out at the expense of preparing for the real season.

Does anyone get the feeling that TW is'nt revealing his hand just yet?
Definetly.

Deledio hasn't been used in the midfield properly yet, and Tambo didn't get much of a go there either.

He might have a few cards still up his sleeve.

I would have hoped that the praccy games were used to experiment a few things. Play a few guys out of position and see what happens, and give a few kids a run. Winning a praccy game wont get us 4 points!

I'd hope that for the game against Collingwood we play our best 22 so we have some cohesion going into round 1. I don't care about the results in practice games.

I think the talk of Wallace not showing his hand is wishful thinking.
We are struggling at the moment to win our own ball and our skill level is terrible.

I do think once we get our KPP back we will be better, but I cant see us making any big strides, would love to be proved wrong!

Didnt see the game but from reading the posts it sounds all to familiar. One thing that really worries me the most is Lids, he just does not know how to find the footy! Sure he can sprint, but does he know how to get to a contest? Really a big year for the boy......yes this early.

Bizarre comment. He's played 2 seasons and already averages 17 possies a game.
