Autopsy Melbourne board feedback thread

On this board opinion is sacrosanct. That will never change.

Crimson Azure Captain Jack ThePuppetMaster and I all have varying opinions on players and other football issues e.g. So far this year we've had our disagreements on certain players and coaching aspects but they've been expressed respectfully and that is the key.

As mods however we have the same opinion that the extent and manner in which a lot of opinion of late has been expressed has been poor. Regardless of our individual tolerances for this as posters, as mods we see the need to act.

Voicing your opinion is one thing but spamming your opinion, hounding down others who disagree with you, tagging posters simply to be smart and taking threads off topic is not on. By "off topic" we don't mean light digression we mean blatantly going off on tangents or whole new conversations in proper discussion threads.

It is also tiresome and has clearly deterred quite a lot of posters lately.

Players are fair game but incessant bagging of players for the sake of it goes beyond simply expressing an opinion, it has become a national sport and popularity contest.

It is an Admin expectation that all board mods address this sort of stuff especially when concerns are raised.

Posters make the board and we're an online community with great posters. We need to remember though that the board belongs to all of us, not some of us and quite a lot of people read this board even if they don't post so it isn't such a big ask to have basic standards.
It seems my thoughts can actually be expressed in a succinct and intelligent way.

Sadly I lack the capacity to do so. :$

Nek minnit RandB puts them in just the manner I'd like without even discussing it.

Well put.

Posters take heed!

Wait, you were a mod?

Oh and by the way this board is like highlander, 'there can be only one.'

And that's me these days. If my level of motivation ever increase we'll look you up.

On behalf of the rest of the scum, id like to welcome you back.

We should all be moderators - that way we all have the capability of annihilating each other. So the idea of mutually-assured-destruction, or MAD, becomes the new paradigm. Great behaviour ensues and we all live happily ever after. Can't think of anything wrong with that idea...o_O

Too many active threads on the main board now. Unless you visit every single day, it's impossible to keep up.

Every single thread on the front page is unread and half the second page and I was on this board last weekend. If a BF regular like me is overwhelmed, casual observers have no chance. If people log in once a week and see a whole page of unread threads, they'll just say "too hard"

Just IMO, FWIW.

Agreed - BF has too many members now for the main board to work. Takes too long to read a thread, too many people giving nothing responses because everyone wants to have their opinion heard - no matter how inane it is or how many times the same thought has already been posted. I think what I'm after is Smallfooty.

But the Melbourne section of BF is still good. Not too much to keep up - plenty of good posts. Not much sniping, threads stay on track most of the time. I come to BF just for our board. Main board can GAGF.

:D

Re the above discussion, I guess I agree, although I suppose I just adapt my reading habits when I'm on the main board. I'll open any threads which look interesting and read the first page or two...I can usually get a sense of how the discussion is going/will go. If it looks interesting I might skip ahead to the last page; if there's been worthwhile discussion it will be apparent. If it's going round in circles I just close thread and move on.

Every now and then some good stuff comes across the main board and I struggle to think where else you'd see it apart from a place like Bigfooty (squiggle thread, bad merchandise thread etc).

One trap I've learned to avoid though is not to rely on the mainboard for my main source of season analysis. (unless you want breaking news). Match reports, player reports, team analyses etc -- most of these I find still quite ably covered by the newspapers. Too much shit gets written on Bigfooty and it can really cloud your judgment. For me, anyway.

Can we get a movement going to get the frank word auto corrected to frank on our board (if possible) mods?

Love the frank, but it is franking hard to autocorrect myself in the heat of a typical Dees franking. :thumbsu::D
