Oh well, as I said before who knows?

It would be interesting to see the real figures though, but I guess it's pretty impossible to get all that info together.

AFL fans would've have planned a weekend off and wouldnt have changed it for a Storm game. Anyway, the media didnt help with the biggest selling newspaper advertising everything under the sun to do in Melbounre with the week off(including the RU game), yet 'forgot' to mention that Storm were playing on the Sunday. Even Ch10 mentioned it on Thursday that they were playing yet the NEXT night mentioned that the RU test was the ONLY football game on the weekend!

This is rubbish. Storm take out a back page ad on the Hun at least once a week (it covers the whole of the bottom of the page) and advertises inside the paper with the same ad during the week. So i suppose the AFL supporters cant read the ad and see the time and the opposition in the said ad?????

================================

You got this wrong Joffa...the small ads are always in the Sun for home games, but what Mark was trying to say, that even in the Sun in the Activities Section (mid-pages), etc. etc. there was no mention that Storm was playing and they said something along the lines that the only footy in town was RU!
League people got onto this very quickly and the Sun received hundreds of emails.....they apologised profusely and made up for it by publishing some emails and tried to insert the Storm game in some other article.
There are a lot of people who might just be browsing the acctivities section for the weekend and not bother with the sports section.
==================================

Even the next night after Origin 2 on 9, there was no mention of the game even though 9 covered it!

It was pushed back an hour because of poor ratings, and it was all over the morning program on Channel 9 the next morning.
Old news by that night.
=================================

As you said who's interested in old news ..... why watch a replay of a game mid-week when you might have school and work the next day, when you can see it live other places in town or listen to the ABC or to Roy and HG or even set your recorder.???.
Delayed telecasts of leaguel very rarely rate well.

And even Ch.9 admit that the ratings are not a true indication of rugby league interest in Melb....but as they only use up to 700 boxes Vic. wide that are placed on tv sets.....you will get a huge variance on numbers for rugby league, particularly here in Melb.
Look at the *live* broadcasts of league in the past.....always rated extremely well. Those ratings are only a very small indication of programmes watched....but they have to use something.
Ch.9 have a vested interest here in Melb. to show afl first and foremost, as they do to show league in NSW and Q;ld. first and foremost.
Note that most *live* afl * games into Q;ld. and NSW don;t rate well either!
====================================

There is a lot of interest in RL here in VIC, but it simply never gets any help from some (thats SOME nicko) sections of the media.

The hoary old chestnut. It copped heaps of space during the 90's with 85,000 at the MCG SOO. The Melbourne public voted with their feet the next year and the crowd was down to about 50,000.
When the Storm started in 1998 they got 22,000 to the first match, and have gone downhill ever since. It is called novelty value and that novelty has worn out.

There is little interest in RL in Victoria, no matter what anecdotal evidence you and Ms Storm come up with.
The facts state otherwise.
====================================

What facts state otherwise........do you mean the 10,000 or so regular attendees at Storm games......well Joffa Boy.....they are the diehards and even then they are never the same old faces anyway......give me figures that actually watch league and Storm on Fox on delayed fta .......and that interest you talk about suddenly increases dramatically.......

Get off your high horse....you will never ever know just how many people are interested in league here......it does not necessarily translate into numbers at games......YET....HOPEFULLY further down the track with more time......numbers will increase.
Probably not to the extent that afl does......but they will.

Jealous that league has a small niche in afl territory, Joffa?
Now **** off!

Ok ok.I'll reply.

Whats an ad got to do with the AFL having a BYE and everyone planning something else? Do you think AFL fans will change their plans for a Storm game? I think not.

"It was pushed back an hour because of poor ratings, and it was all over the morning program on Channel 9 the next morning.

It was put on in tyhe first place at 9:30pm. Not exactly a prime time sopt for a big sporting event. 7 put a smutty Playboy show on at the same time to take away as much viewers as possible. Pretty pathetic really. The Herald Sun though said the highlights for that night(twice) wernt the SoO, but the Playboy smut. Yet everyone I know watched it. I saw pubs advertising it. Even AFL players were talking about it. Hell, even the Herald Sun said after that the Origin is far better than the AFL version was(derr). So 9 made a mistake and would've got FAR better ratings live than at 9:30. It only needed a little excuse to put it back. I guess that Docklands special was more important eh? What a load of rubbish.

And yet 9 decided to show the NRL GF live after it thought of putting it on late and over 535,000 watched it. Up 135,000 on the year before. Nice one Joffa.

"Oh, and by the way - last year's AFL grand final beat the NRL grand final by about 500,000 viewers.

The NRL grand final was only the highest rater in Australia if you count NSW and Qld as Australia - the AFL granny won overall."

I've already put the ratings up that showed it was higher. And yes, it inlcuded the regional areas. And it wasnt even live in SA or WA. Imagine if it was. Pity 9 dont have the guts to try it.

No. It didn't.

The official results were -

AFL approx 2.6 million viewers.

NRL approx 2.1 million viewers.

The only place it won was if you look at the percentages of viewer numbers overall, then it increases with the regional areas of NSW and Qld.

It that too hard to understand?

How can one be jealous of a small niche? By definition if your code only has a small niche, that code would have to be jealous of the larger, more successful code.

Now **** off!

Typical foul mouthed dole bludging RL supporter. Instead of abusing me, why don't you get off your @rse and get a job and stop this bludging on Australia's tax payers. I object to my taxes going to a Rupert Murdoch funded black hole called the Melbourne Drizzle

Richoagain? Thats only for the 5 cities in which the NRL was only live in 3.

Remember it was live in 2 RL states that have a population of 10 million. Plus the 1/2 million + in VIC and you have a very big figure.

And dont forget the average vs peak figures. Makes a difference.

"Tyhe" "sopt". Hehe. Thats what happens when you type in a hurry.

How do you afford a psychiatrist when you are on the dole?
Another handout you take for nothing?

Anyway, who could be angry with somebody so obviously unstable as yourself. I'm never angry at you Ms Storm, you are too pathetically funny to be angry at.

Funny how you reach for the emotive rubbish whenever you have no facts to back up your argument.

Everybody is either jealous, angry, or frustrated once they have busted your false blatherings.

Have a happy day off Missy. Oh thats right every day is a day off for you isn't it. At the taxpayers expense of course.
