I retract the above. Not the French Riverina, neigh the NSW Riverina is where its at. What a heartland that is

John Longmire has spoken.

Melbourne is only the "heartland" of the AFL because of the license fees paid by "interstate" clubs to keep half of the Melbourne-based clubs afloat.

Maybe headquarters can give that money back and let economies of scale take care of themselves, then we'd only have about 4 or 5 Melbourne based clubs and the "heartland" claim would be seen for what it is - hypocrisy.

Do you really think anyone believes this bullshit. Also Adelaide in fact sucks.

Learn your history mate, every thing that was said was 100% true

The distribution funding to Melbourne clubs is a tiny amount. Even the smallest club in North brings in many multiples of those distributions.

If you are talking about what happened 30 odd years ago then who effing cares.

Interstate aka second class supporters just want a leg up again by playing less teams in Melbourne, where it counts. Dont like it then go back to sanfl.

We are talking about what happen in the past you moron. Learn history, without the interstate clubs coming in your Comp would had been in the shithouse

Lol look at how buttthurt you are. "We're the best you second class peasant, don't like it you can get out" classic Victorian. Wonder why all of Australia hates you! Here's your answer.

Face facts mate the heartland of footy is rural and interstate clubs because we make the game.

The interstate clubs coming in saved your state leagues, not the VFL/AFL. VFL was gearing up to expand and professionalise on a scale the SANFL and WAFL couldn't match. We were going to end up with your best players and your supporters either way, we just allowed you the chance to have your own clubs. An act of generosity.

And lol at interstate clubs making the game, its Melbourne because its the only world class city that follows the sport and generates the vast majority of revenue and support.

Perth and Adelaide are second class cities, economically, population wise, culturally, politically. With the way Perth's economy is heading they might need to disband a team or two, and both Adelaide clubs haven't been relevant since they were given a slew of draft concessions and priority access to young talent.

Face it, you are the dags on the arse of the Melbourne Football League. Your inbred pommy genetics are shining through. Go watch a church or something.

Spoken like a true Victorian who has their head so far up their own ass. Go on believing that if you want to mate, I believed in fairytales when I was a kid too. Maybe when you grow up a bit you will be able to mature a bit and realise Melbourne isn't the centre of the universe

Melbourne absolutely is the centre of the AFL universe.

And Adelaide is Pluto.
