Membership Tally

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Last night's loss will be a double whammy.

We wont be on free to air television until Round 1, so our product will not be seen by potential new members during March.

We will now be travelling all over Australia to second rate grounds so our supporters will not get to attend games to buy memberships. We have to hope that the AFL schedule one of our practice matches at Whitten Oval, or at least in Metro Melbourne.

Agreed, although memebership is way up for this time of year, the reality is that we are still 10,000 off our budgeted figure with only 4 weeks before the season begins. Unfortunately because some of our so called supporter base are soft and wait on early results before commiting to a membership, Friday nights performance against an undermanned opposition has undone all the positivety from the pre-season period and as mentioned earlier we are not on free to air TV until round one and must now play practice matches god knows where. Simply not acceptable to expect a rush of memberships to be puchased at round one.

Whilst losing to Melbourne might have a small impact on Membership sales due to us now doing the country circuit..we are still ahead on membership by quite a bit and there have been 2500 new members signed that we haven't had before and also family day is coming so we will pick up more there.

If some people are placing a condition on their membership based purely on a some NAB cup wins then they are very unlikely to stick with us in the long term anyway. It will hurt but I don't think it will hurt that much.
If people cant see the potential in the players we currently have then they are not real supporters anyway.

Making a profit isn't dependent on the amount of 'real supporters' sign up... it's about the number of members. A guy buying his first ever membership having only ever seen one game of footy is worth just as much as someone who has been a member and seen every game we've played for the past 30 years.

If you decide not to buy a membership based solely on Friday night's loss, they forget about it, we don't need you.

The team played poorly, and not half as well as they did during the purple patch last year.

Potential is a nasty word, but this team has a chance to go places this year, so sign up now, because the results will come.

You hit the nail on the head...if people want to join they will, to not join up because of one loss in the preseason comp is a pretty poor excuse.

Absoulutly correct!!. what kind of supporter would not become a member just because we couldnt win a pre-season game, which is irrelivant to the whole season. very very pathetic excuse!

Exactly, in fact you should sign up your aged parents and your pets. My old mum always gets a nice surprise when her armchair membership arrives in the post. Haven't seen her in her cap mind you.

I'll be signing up my cat, Jordan, for about the tenth year next month when I'm in Melbourne. I might even sign up my 80 year old mum. I had a picture taken of the two of us in Bulldogs gear for an ex-pat Aussie site I belong to. Mum looks rather tough in my Doggie jumper. Maybe she should have played up in Darwin over the weekend! :p

Some people have to be very careful with the money they have and where they spend it. If they think all this talk about improvement is another 'false dawn' then maybe they won't sign up. At the end of the day, the only way to show the improvement in the team in real terms is to win...

I'm not agreeing with the reasons, but I understand them. Teams that win get members. That’s why successful teams have more members. Winning turns supporters into members, be they on the bandwagon or not... they’re still potentially going to be the difference between a profit or a loss.

No problem with people who need to be careful with their money, but my experience is that rather than hold back these are the very ones who budget their membership. My problem is with those who can afford it but find all sorts of reasons why they shouldn't part with it and at the same time insist on their rights to be negative critics, but then they don't love the club like you and I do.
