Even if cut-off was today, these are golden numbers for the Dogs. Remember, we have not played finals in half a decade. Well done to the club these last couple of years!

The following is from an article on the bulldogs website. A great result for the club.

The LeasePlan Western Bulldogs today reached another membership milestone, moving past 25,000 members for the first time in the Club’s history.

Over the last six years, membership figures have grown from 19,085 members in 2001 to today’s tally of 25,020. This is an exciting day for the Club as the team prepare for Sunday’s exciting clash against Port Adelaide over at AAMI stadium.

On Friday 7th April, the Club’s all time membership record was broken with Louise Crowe of Flemington purchasing her membership, making her the Club’s 21,925th member .

The Club’s target of 26,000 members in 2006 is on its way to being achieved. Chief Executive Campbell Rose believes that although today’s membership figure is an important milestone for the Club, supporters still need to sign on today.

“Today’s result is fantastic. It is the first time in the Club’s history that we have been able to break the 25,000 membership mark. A big thankyou must go to all our dedicated Bulldogs members who have already signed up.

“However, the Club is still aiming to reach our intended target of 26,000 and the challenge now lies with all supporters who are yet to sign on for the 2006 season,” said Rose.

Now the team has to repay 25,000 people by making the finals.
Don't worry Curly, I'm sure they will. :)

Curly, you have a habit of getting right to the main point of a topic.
Following this announcement it is very important that we get a good showing from the footy team.
A victory is important to all supporters, and to the season's prospects for the Dogs.

Go Doggies!!

While I agree with what you are saying I can't forget how little time ago we were in total disarray. I have been proud of the boys every week but one so far and we have been hit hard by injuries, even Baird has gone down.
We are in front of where I thought we would be at this stage, but we will have slipped a bit I suspect before we get a significant number of our talls back.
A win on Sunday would certainly be a boost and keep us in front of expectations. Go Dogs!!!!

I'm no mathematician or economist, anyone have any idea how much this years increase in members translates into cash?Does 25K or the target 26K significantly improve our financial situation?
If we were to sustain these numbers into the future does it materially affect our ability to remain viable, or is there a higher membership figure that we really need to attain to secure fiscal sustainability?

I'm not sure either but the budget was 25,000 and the target was 26,000. I'd say Cam Rose will be somewhat satisfied with the result but not delighted.

1000 members = $150K plus flow-ons like merchandising and reserved seat sales.

I would also suggest Social Club, Top Dogs and Bulldogs Backyard would all be up as well.

All the coteries are up on last year.
Top Dogs are up something like 25%. Players Sponsors are up about 10% and even the Westeners are up around 10%.

With player sponsors, I think they had sold 133 of the possible 160 sponsor options which was a fair bit up on the year before.

Bulldogs Backyards are a fair way up on the previous years as well.

It's really good to see that other areas apart from the Memberships sales have increased.. ..let's hope that these areas further improve in 2007.

Cam has been talking about 26,000 for a few years now and I suspect that it has both a real and a symbolic importance. It seemed a bit far fetched when he first talked about it but we’ll go very close this year. I haven't looked at the finances from that perspective but it makes sense that we must be getting close to break even on budget for the year.
There would seem to be a couple of other factors to consider. The first is the obvious one of extra finance and the fact that this proves to ourselves and others that we have a large enough base to be viable and it generates a reasonable revenue. Getting a good membership number has other value. It increases our appeal to current and potential sponsors and dramatically increases our bargaining power with the AFL.
Remember how few prime time TV slots we got last year and how we have improved this year well as it has been explained to me, as membership increases so does TV exposure and it becomes a self fulfilling cycle. The more members you get the more you get on TV, and the more you are on TV the more people want to become members, and it works in reverse as we know.
26,000 would get us well up the list of Melbourne based clubs and adds credibility to the argument that we have a latent membership potential that could be dramatically expanded given the right sort of support.
I would suggest that it also assists with the fund raising that is going on to fully develop the Whitten Oval. It is planned that when completed, this will also assist in contributing to our long term financial viability.

Just paid for my membership over the phone today!!!!

I took advantage of the monthly payment plan.

This is the first time that I have been a member of the club, despite being a supporter since I was 8 years old (way back in 1991!)
