stynes said breaking the 30,000 membership barrier was a sign the club was still growing off the field.
It is a membership record for the Demons, who last year signed up 29,619 members.
"We have rekindled the spirit of the Demons for a lot of Melbourne supporters out there," he said. "But we also know that we have got a hell of a lot more work to do."

Major Melbourne Membership Milestone

With volunteer telemarketers gathering in the Club’s MCG offices, taking on the challenge of signing up as many members as possible, the ambition of reaching 30,000 members in 2009 was reached around 7.30 pm last night.

It was a long sought achievement – as the Club’s Membership Manager, Fiona Trewhitt, said, ‘Everyone’s been working extremely hard towards reaching 30,000 members. They’ve done an amazing job, and now we have the time and momentum to build on that foundation.’ The 30,000 mark has indeed been reached, but it is really just the beginning.

Certainly, it’s not a moment to rest on any sort of laurels, as the ‘Dob in a Demon’ campaign gathers force, collecting those who have been hiding their red and blue allegiances, and the general appeal goes out to all those who do not yet have a membership to call 1300 DEMONS and pledge their dedication to the cause.

Those 2-3k new members in mid-2008 only jumped on board because Stynes took over. So I don't think we'll see another spike like that this time around.
