And Bartoli lost in the first round, and she's rewarded with the 9th spot in the rankings. Pathetic.

Can't believe Tatiana Golovin is #13! I don't mind her as she comes across as a likeable girl, but she's pretty ordinary. Vaidisova had better be careful, she's not doing alot right now and is slipping down the rankings a bit.

Andy Murray only down 3 spots?

That'll do me.

Yes and Gonzalez down 17..that defies stupidity imo. I could cop Gonzalez going down to 13-15 in the rankings..but seriously this system needs review ASAP.

Not really. it makes perfect sense to me. Gonzalez made the Open final last year which was his best effort last year. Since he didn't repeat the effort and only managed to get to the third round his ranking takes a massive dive. Andy Murray has never really performed at the Aussie open so he didn't really have a great deal of ranking points to lose so his ranking doesn't drop significantly. That's just the way it goes.

Murray made the 4th round last year..

Gonzo made the final, yes. He made the 3rd round this year, so he won twice in other words. He won 5 times last year. So only 3 wins the difference.

Murray made the 4th round last year and out the 1st round this year..3 wins the differenc. As I said, dumb system. Puts way too much emphasis on defending!

Were you the one that had a go at me when I had a go at the system? Or was that someone else?

It is a stupid system.

Wasn't me mate. I would have agreed with you. IMO, this system has a lot of flaws imo.

So then what else could they do? The only thing I can think of is not the whole defending of points, but just simply winning points and they all add up.
Justine Henin will be #1 for ages still as she always defends her points at the French, manages to go far at Wimbledon and win the US.

Would be interesting to see how many points Roger is on.

Exactly. You don't want to get into the same situation as golf was in not that long ago when it reached a point where even if Tiger Woods didn't play a round of golf for two or three years he'd still be number 1 in the world. How boring is that?
