Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

Hampson will be at the club for longer than Ackland, so why not play him.

Our young rucks have to learn the trade at the top level sooner or later, and we know ackland will never be more than a C grade ruck.

Remember when Judd first came to the club he identified Jamison and Hampson with those with imense talent. Give him a shot

Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

The best game I've seen him play was for Port against West Coast when he was a forward, took some good marks, presented well, yes, this was a number of years ago, but maybe it's an idea how you could get some worthwhile service from the bloke?

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

lol at the pretoection of ackland, sorry HACKLAND. this guy has given very little if anything to our club. Russell gets less protection than this half assed w***er gets from people on here.

I see what everyone is saying, but if our young rucks are that fragile im worried. Kreuze has already taken a beating this year and been fine

Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

If the hack gets seklected today I will not go Sat night...

Simple!!![/quote

what you said is ridicolous. We all know how crap his been playing for us. But consider this. If he fails again he will never get another chance. Im sure Ackland will give it all his got, because he knows if he doesnt improve his really finished this time.

Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

I was honestly hoping the last time Ackland would line up for the Blues is in the motor car cavalcade of retirees

Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

It all starts in the middle...if the ruckman is half-arsed it affects the morale of the rest of team. For this reason, Cloke is a real loss...plays hard and inspiring football at least...if not always winning the hitout.

So although we are desperate, I wouldn't be playing Ackland unless he has shown similar endeavour to Cloke in the VFL of late. I think I'd rather rotate OHailpin, Hammer and Kreuzer through there.

not that i dont share your sentiment, surely we wouldnt waste the petty?

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

Think most of the posts here (both sides of argument) on Ackland have merit.

1) Ackland have proven himself a weak option (failure) for Carlton in the ruck due to a number of things, but mostly due to: being too short, showing poor application, and lack of professionalism. 100% he should not be renewed because of it.
2) Ackland has been playing well in the 2s and trying to force his way back into the firsts for one reason only. To try and convince Carlton to take up the third year option on his contract - FAT CHANCE! Every player usually performs better in a contract renewal year but Ackland is the worst offender and a mercenary.

Having said above...Carlton can use him in return
3) Hackland in a normal year wouldn't hold his form after a couple of games in the firsts. Hackland knowing that he has to impress for any chance of contract renewal will bust his gut. Carlton can use this in the odd game this year. I expect him to play quite well if he gets in this weekend. I will also keep in mind that anyone can play one or two good games but arent worth persisting with long term - this applies to HACKLAND!!!!
4) I agree with other posts that Charman would smash the kids. So, Hackland is just the right person to step in and play this weekend to take the pressure off!
5) Just please dont post the crap about giving him another chance - he has had numerous chances and failed. FWIW: We are paying him a decent contract and this means we can use him as we need him. We need him for protection this weekend as Charman will break Hammer/Kruezer!

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

As much as some individuals might think themselves the most accomplished football brains going around, sometimes you need to have a little faith in the selection commitee.

I honestly have no idea if it is worth giving Ackland a go. He doesn't do it consistently, but on very rare occasion he has shown himself to be a competitive ruckman. Kruezer's impact has lessened a little over the past couple as one might expect, and Hampson has looked a little underdone at AFL & VFL level.

Jamie Charman is a physical ruckman, and doesn't mind leading with his knees, elbows, head, or whatever will get the job done. Not keen on seeing Kruezer get stomped by Charman...but would love to see him go toe to toe with the Loogy.

All things considered, if Ackland is 100% fit (or near enough), Im happy for Ratts to make the call and give him a chance.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

His a must in this week. Time to stand and deliver sugar or ....
Having said that, Hampson should come in as well with Kruez going forward.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

 What the f*** are you smoking ratts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so bloody pis*ed off!!!!! The guy is sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would rather have Blackwell in the ruck than Hackland!!!!!!!!

Leaunberger and Charman will pis*, sh*t and vomit on Hackland this week.

The game is gone before it has started.

PLEASE BRING IN HAMPSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsu:

How does Blackwell go in the ruck ???? thank god you have nothing to do with team selection

Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

He could only be a last resort at best. The other contenders are better or worth developing. If we have nobody else and Eddie Betts does not want to try his luck then roll the dice. But Ratts is looking to the future and knows where his bread is buttered!

Spot on Kramer1.

Ratten's greatest strength is that he likes backing an underperforming player to do a job and look at some of his results?

Bower improved.
Russell improved.
Jamison improved.
Bannister improved.

If he makes the call, I am 100% happy he has made the right one.

We've all cringed at some of Ackland's past performances, but he is on the list and so whatever has happened in the past is just that, the past. You can bring it up when his contract is due for renewal.

Now is the time to move on, give him a go and may he prove all the naysayers wrong.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

Anyone know the progress of Asake? Heard big things about him pre season but seems to be forgotten about of late. Is he injured or just not stepping up.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

I would much rather see Hammer in the navy blue along with kreuze.

although i would be happy for us to play 3 rucks hammer, kreuze and you know who else if we have too.

I have been thinking the same thing about bringing in Hackland & Hampson to share the ruck duties & let Kreuzer play as a permanent forward.

The downside is that Setanta will have to be ommited for this to happen.

WE can't keep playing Kreuzer in the ruck, if Ratten is true to his word of looking after Kreuzer then its time to show us.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

somebody has to do the ruck. nothing against Kreuzer and Hampson who i'm sure will be fine players in time but i do no believe either is ready for senior football atm.

If the reports of Ackland's performances for the Ants are accurate then he has earnt a shot.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

Give him a go.

If he is serious about his future he will have a crack, if not then we know where we stand.

IMO there is no point having a highly paid experienced ruckman running around for the bullants when we are low on experienced ruckman.

Its a much better option than having two highly talented, yet raw kids getting smashed in the ruck for 4 qtrs by Charman.

Re: Ratten: "Hackland is right to go and could be in the seniors this week"

Whoever pulls on a Blues jumper I am prepared to support to the hilt.

Whoever then turns out not to be good enough, well so be it. They can simply join hundreds (probably thousands) of other players who haven't been good enough to forge long careers at this club.

I find the sheer spite directed at some of our players disgusting to be honest. I hope Ackland (note the spelling) kicks **** on his return.

And go JR and Carrots while I am at it. :p

Re: Ackland...give him one more chance.

Giving him a go would not be the worst thing that could happen but i would rather see Hammer be getting games he is a big unit already and could hold his own IMO.

I just wonder if it really is a case of Ackland OR Hampson.

Firstly, we have gone into games already this season with all 3 of Cloke, Hampson and Kreuzer.

Secondly, many have been saying that Kreuze may need a rest in the Ants this week.

i dont think we need to rest Matthew this week as we just had the week off and played on a friday the week before. so he should be right i would say. should be quite fresh and over any soreness from the weagles game!! :thumbsu:
