Tommy Hislop delisted?

Have heard off two people within the last hour that essendon have or are planning to delist hislop. Reason being that the club is taking the same stance as taken on lovett, meaning that he may be a trouble maker of some sort.

Id be surprised if this is true as when it is this close to trade week we would be more likely to try trade him that delist him.

Would want a pick higher than 25 for him.

Interesting

Re: Tommy Hislop delisted?

If we didn't want him then surely we'd try and get something for him.

I doubt we'd get anything too spectacular but must be worth something to someone.

edit: I'm pretty sure this will find its way to the trade/delisting thread...

Weekly Poll - Should Essendon chase Cousins?

I think i might just do this every week from the Essendon Website :thumbsu:
This was a couple of weeks ago btw, but who cares:p

Wouldn't get it... and I doubt it's true.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any mention of Essendon chasing Warnock's signature to have a ruck division of Hille, Warnock, Laycock and Bellchambers.

You could leave Ryder down back permanently with that group of rucks.

Hille and Warnock looks like the Ottens and King premiership ruck set up when the former can play as a forward.

Could Essendon be poised to make a late offer of 23 if the Fremantle v Carlton negotiations reach a stale mate?

Reckon Warnock would join Essendon ahead of Melbourne when you're well funded and have a young list? ;)

I think we need a mature ruckman as well, but I'd rather Griffen or even White as a stop-gap until Bellchambers develops.

Laycock needs consistent pressure for his spot, and a rookie ruckman wouldn't go astray either.

I would be interested in why you say it is such a bad deal.

Not "he's not worth that much" but actually why.

What are the areas of his game that you don't like or why won't he go on and develop into a top FB.

Or conversely why the player you think we should pick will make it at AFL level and end up a better player than Garland.

Sorry Merv, didn't see your reply.

My objection is mainly to do with the fact that I rate Lovett and Hislop highly. And i'm a bit pissed off about our holier than thou attitude. Does that mean we ignore a Kerr if the Eagles offer him to us? (unlikely of course). We're digging a hole for ourselves.

Lovett is a game breaker and Hislop could be a terrific in and under midfielder. Ok quality key defenders are as rare as hen's teeth and yes Garland looked good on Bradshaw when he won Rising Star. Yes he does seem to have good agility.

But he's skinny and whilst he obviously will build up he looks like he'll always be on the light side. That's ok for someone 6-5 or 6-6 like Fletch and Ryder but Garland is only 191-192 cm.

Plus he plays for the Dees and we know their record with talls;)

Basically both Lovett and Hislop are just too big a price for a skinny kid with just 17 a handful of games to his name.

I wouldn't trade Hislop full stop and would only give Lovett up for a top 20 pick or straight swap for O'Keefe.

I highly doubt that'd be the be all and end all with Hislop.
He's a former top 20 pick in a fairly strong draft and has shown glimpses of play at VFL level to suggest he can be a very handy AFL player.
If we didn't want him, which you're suggesting, I'm sure Knights and co would put him on the trade table and watch the bidding begin because by delisting him, that gives us no compensation for him.

i'd heard he'd agreed to sign a new contract so hislop certainly won't be delisted.

as reported warnock is asking 350-400k per year and is not proven. waste of money, if bombers going to spend that amount i'd rather it spent on kerr or o'keefe who are proven guns. we already have hille who is better than warnock so why would essendon want to be paying a guy over 350k to warm the bench?

People thinking Jeff White could be a good pick-up late into the draft or PSD, them hopes have been all but shattered. Here's a quote from today's Herald Sun ;

Herald Sun said:
He is an All-Australian ruckman and club best-and-fairest winner who is fit and raring to continue playing his trade.
But it seems no one wants discarded Melbourne ruckman Jeff White.
White's phone hasn't been ringing and he hasn't heard from his manager.
Not encouraging signs, he says, so close to next week's AFL's trade period and the national draft next month.
"I thought I would've heard something by now, so there's a bit of doubt, obviously. I just think nothing's going to happen," White, 31, said yesterday.

stantons tackle count was up in 08 - he did pretty well actually one of the clubs highest on 72. On stats alone it was the one area of his game that improved the most this year. See below:

http://finalsiren.com/PlayerStats.asp?PlayerID=1349

It's already been explained how tackle counts are misleading. Stanton hangs on the outside of a pack and as soon as a player picks up possession Stanton tackles him. There is no indication of the fact that he's run down a player... in fact I don't think I've EVER seen Stanton run down a man with a tackle. ;)

Yep:thumbsu:

They're misleading in the fact that if you tackle someone, you get credited with a tackle?

Slow down a second, longy. That's how it works?

Get that chip off your shoulder mate.

Take Stanton out of the Essendon side and you have depleted the side.

He plays his role. not you or I know what he is directed to do by the coaching staff. however the staff that do direct him give him votes in the B&F so he must be doing something right.

Pull your head in, the bloke is 22 years old, heavily tagged every week by the oppositions number 1 stopper and still gets the pill, is pretty handy with it and kicks goals. Busts his gut to give options, may not be the most defensive midfielder i have seen, but last time i checked, Essendon were playing an attacking brand of football.

Give it a rest, im sick of reading your bullcrap about one of our better players.

Then why don't we de-list Gumbleton why we're at it...

Gumby and Hislop have both played the same amount of games as each other (almost). Neither have made much of a huge impact either.

YES, lets de-list 2 of our top 20 picks of 2 years ago.

Its either, both those guys you heard this info from are idiots. or. Man has finally landed on Pluto.
