Hocking- ____ off, we are starved with ball winners and you want to give up a ball magnet! Monfries is no chance to be traded either as recently he basically has been our best player. Improving in his actual position!

I agree re: Monfries. People are forgetting he is still only 21 and starting to play some huge roles. He's taken more forward steps since he's become a midfielder than any other player on our list.

As for Hocking, we have Watson, Lonergan and Hislop who are natual ball winners. I'm not at all sold on Hocking but when he gets back from injury we'll see how he goes.

Re: The absolute untouchables at EFC who you wouldn't dream of using in a trade deal come years end.

I think this is a reasonable post and probably could not have summarised it better myself. I probably agree with all these points - except for the players as pawns idea - I would hate that to be the ideology at EFC

guess it depends on whether u want the clubs ideology to be a winning or losing one. make some tuff decisions boys

Hocking could be an important part of our team in the future, I see him, maybe as a Cameron Ling type player.
Now we could sure use one of them.

There is a difference between making tough decisions which are also right, and tough decisions just because we can.

Anyone who thinks Scotty doesn't have a place at Essendon Football Club next year is deluding themselves.

Players that should be delisted at years end :-
Courtney Johns
Andrew Lee
Jason Johnson
Damien Peverill
Heath Hocking

Players that should be on the trade table at years end :-
Jason Laycock
Angus Monfries
That is just ridiculous. Logic behind it?

Will be back within a month at Bendigo and provided he shows some form he will definitely get a run for Essendon before the year is out. Could be a vital cog of our midfield engine.

He is in that sort of mould, but West generals play whereas Hocking hasn't as yet, so we can't really compare them until he has played a fair few more games...I don't want to delist him because he doesn't look flashy, rather we have a fair amount of young mids and I can't see him being anywhere near the top in the pecking order...Answer this question though, do you think any other club would pick him up if we delist him..? I think not...

I can tell you now that three showed interest at the end of last season.;)

It's not just Heath's ball winning ability, he has a very decent sized body, he can mix it, physically, in Senior footy more than most of midfielders can.

Adelaide having Thompson, Edwards, Goodwin ect around the ball was just too much in the end.

Also swapping him for a kid who is likely to turn out pretty much the same is setting us back three years - he's already done a lot of the hard yards, and has the body to play AFL.

All you had to do was read a few posts after that...

He has potential to get 30 disposals consistently, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here, he has only played 1 senior game...Opponents wouldn't mind him getting a stack of disposals because he doesn't hurt the opposition on the rebound...

You dont give any well thought out reasons. 'I cant see him being anywhere near the top in the pecking order'. Pitiful reason to delist Hocking. Unfair to write him off without him getting a chance to prove himself. Hopefully he makes you eat your words.

I hope he does, but I just can't see it myself...

Hocking getting delisted, what a joke. Will become a very good player for us in the future. Quicker version of JJ and with better skills, you'd have to be smoking a bit of the green stuff if you wanted him delisted, would be in our best 22 with a rising star nomination under his belt right now if he wasn't injured.

Don't forget DeBoer either. I would rather get someone like Suban, Rich or Swift though. Swift may slide ala Jetta, so who knows we may get him with our PP!:thumbsu:

I assume you're suggesting we'll at least end up with pick 3.

If so, I'm not sure about Swift and Suban if we're to grab a midfielder.

Tom Swift was playing reasonable football from the backline in the WAFL Colts, but didn't do anything particularly special. Now with his latest injury setback, it's unclear if he will be able to show recruiters that he's still got his u/16s form.

I wouldn't want to be spending pick 3 based on what a guy did as a

His played 1 senior game, settle down buddy...Also, he has been injured a fair few times at his stay at Essendon over his 3 years, if he can't get his body right at Bendigo playing against lower quality blokes then how's he going to go with the rigors of AFL footy..?

That's a pathetic excuse, he's got a groin injury FFS, doesn't mean his body can't stand up to the rigors of footy, it happens to lots of players and they end up doing just fine. Judd's body musn't be able to stand up to the rigors of footy aswell then wouldn't you say? So he should just quit whilst he's ahead

I didn't mean just this injury FFS, he has had numerous other niggling injuries throughout his stay at the Essendon Footy Club...Chris Judd shouldn't even be compared, Judd played a lot more footy in three years than what Hocking has had even with some groin problems and a fair bit of general soreness...Two completely different players, Judd bursts out of packs, Hocking attempts to get the ball out of packs...End of this talk of Hocking boys, waste of time, different opinions obviously, it is time to move on..!

Lot's of players have niggling inuries throughout their careers, and especially earlier on in their careers whilst their body's are adjusting to the intensity of AFL football, but it doesn't mean their body isn't up to it.

Spot on, I didn't state otherwise...

Micheal Not Getting a New Contract

I cant believe it, I would have thought that he had at least 1-2 more years, + he hasn't been playing that badly

How old is he anyway?

I am convinced that McPhee and Lovett should be traded. Essendon have to make tough decisions at the end of the season and these two boys would net a good pick. We have seen their weaknesses all too often especially Lovett. He has threatened to explode and when he does finally play a good game he inevitably drops completely off the radar the following week. At a better team he could be very valuable. McPhee would be a target for many clubs. Still has many years of good football ahead of him and playing at half forward, he would be valuable for many of the top teams. Can swing down back if needed.
Will be hoping these 2 lads have a strong second half of the season to really bump up their trade value.

I'm not at all joking...Sure, he can run a 3.2km time trial quickly, but he is very slow off the mark and his skills aren't sublime either...He has played a massive 1 game at the club in 3 years, time to move on Heath...

Your ignorance is nothing short of astounding...

Please leave.

Actually maybe you should start using some facts. Heath had a foot injury in his first year that put him out for half a season and this year he has had OP. They are the two main injury problems he has had. Other than that he has only missed one game with hammy tightness and two games right at the start of 2006 with a quad strain. He has not had any greater number of minor injuries than anyone else and most of the time he has played through them.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but you could at least stick to the facts when trying to back it up.....

There are two main injuries right there, but he has had a few niggling injuries along the way which I did state in the post you quoted if you took the time to read it...
