That is supposed to make me feel good because an idiot on a message board has seen fit to post a comedian's clip?

My free advice to you is to go away and GROW UP!

I believe his point is something more to do with the fact that it's very hard to imagine the Crows playing as Hawthorn did today. Our club is doing a lot right, but we have very few players with real physical presence, unlike the side that won the flag.

It is just a bit of light hearted humour. I love the Crows but I think they do need to harden up, I think NC has totally removed emotion from our game which makes us a bit soft and after watching the GF today we really do need more physical presence.

I got the point, but I have been warned for swearing etc. in the past, so I fail to see how this rubbish gets past the mods.

If you think the Crows are soft think back to the first showdown and rethink your position on how soft they are.

Geelong kicks straight during the period whenthey were dominating the play in the GF and Hawks are on the fork!

Good luck to the Hawks for winning it.

Maybe so, but there's a difference between weathering a storm against a bottom 4 side for a 10 point victory, and throwing everything you have at a team that's won 42 of the last 44 in a grand final and winning.

Adelaide never would have played like Hawthorn did today.

A few quarters of hard footy in a showdown hardly makes you a hard nut team. Where was the physical presence for the other 21 rounds... I would be pretty disappointed if they couldn't get themselves fired up for a Showdown.

If Geelong kicked straighter for that period of the game then maybe things might have been different but the reason they were missing and not taking their chances was because of the immense pressure the Hawks were applying and the precieved pressure the Cats were feeling even when they were in the clear. I think more credit needs to be paid to Hawthorn for Geelongs poor kicking rather than just blaming the Cats skill errors.

Thats why I put a warning on it, if the f-bomb offends anyone they don't have to watch it.

In the first showdown (one game) we were not soft in regards to copping a belting from the opposition and then sucking it up, playing on and winning the game. However we are never doing the actual belting like Port Adelaide did to us or like Geelong and Hawthorn did to each other.

In the first showdown we (Port) were playing great aggressive type footy and were well on the way to winning the game until a couple of players started playing an undisciplined type of pseudo aggressive footy, like going for the bump and sling instead of going for man and ball at the same time, and promptly lost the game for us.
That is NOT the type of aggressive footy one wants and should not be called as such. SC called it thuggery at the time. I wouldn't go that far as it was within the rules but tough, disciplined aggressive footy it wasn't. It was just plain dumb brainless schoolboys stuff that one expects from bigger kids Vs younger ones.

Start fights to change the course of the game (olden days tactics), but why do you want to change the course of the game when you are on top? Bloomin stupid stuff if you ask me and NOT the type of footy that wins or was played in the GF.

Had we won that game, Choco may not have gone for that run run run, Terry run crap after that and who knows how far we would have gone this year, so yeah that game was a bad milestone for us.

Hawthorn were superb & they played the way that is a yard stick for the rest of the clubs to aim for.

But did we not say the same thing last year in regards to Geelong ?

One or two players with a touch of mongrel would be ideal for our club but to have players like Hodge who have that balance of toughness, skill & with a dash of mongrel takes a top four pick in the right draft or be very very lucky in a later pick.

Sensational player is Luke Hodge.

Fair call. Although, I wouldn't go as far as saying that's why the game was won or lost. There are too many if's. If you had not of put some of our players out of the game we may have belted you.

IMHO, Luke Hodge is the best "running" footballer. I say running, not because he is a great runner but he is a medium medfielder/defender/forward and there is none better than him.

He is a throwback footballer that we all love. Skill, toughness, courage, flair, exceptional attitude and leadership. He is just the ultimate footballer in my eyes. He played that game with cracked ribs and ended up with a Norm Smith Medal, and deservedly so.

I laughed when Matthew Stokes came up to him at the start of the game and tried hitting him in the ribs and Luke Hodge lifted his arms in a "kid give it your best shot" fashion. Matthew Stokes, you just made an ass out of yourself because you just don't do that to Hodge, you NEVER, EVER question his toughness because you will come away looking like a fool.

I would give my own lefty for Luke Hodge in a Crows jumper, let alone yours or macca23's :D

Luke Hodge is a GIGASTAR! :thumbsu:

There was a period there when Sam Mitchell lost the plot a bit and decided, since I can't get my hands on the footy, I will just belt anyone that comes near me. The coat hanger on Ablett was just piss weak especially from a captain. But to his credit, he reigned it in a bit and went in aggressive but for the man and the ball, rather than just the man.

I have said it before and I will say it again, Mitchell is a great player BUT Luke Hodge is 10 times the leader Mitchell is. Hodge played a perfect game in terms of right mix of skill, dash toughness and genuine courage! There was an incident there where Campbell Brown was questioning umpires decision and was bee's proverbial from getting the 50 against him. Sensing that the momentum is with the Hawks, Hodge comes in, grabs Brown by the jumper and tells him to STFU and drags him away from the umpire. THATS a sign of great leadership. Get that 50 and Geelong get the sniff, but Luke controlled his team mate knowing full well that his team is in the driving seat but is not quite there yet.

I actually thought that coat hanger could have been deliberate and well timed, they had an open forward line and Steve Johnson marked the ball anyway. If the free had of been paid in the centre instead of advantage it would of held the play up... providing that's why he did it, chances are you are right though and it was a brain fade. I thought the previous head high contact was more of a brain fade than the coat hanger.

I don't know maybe i'm wrong, maybe I do overestimate the link between genuine toughness/aggression and premiership success. However, if I am right and it is an important part of winning the big one, then under Neil Craig and the current administration we are moving further and further away from our 3rd premiership.

I watched abit of the 97 GF again the other night, what I wouldn't give for a little Kimmy Koster or Mark Bickley kamakazee like attack at the ball/opponent.

For me, Mark Bickley coming back to the club is the one of the best things that has happened all year.

Great post Stiffy and I know where you're coming from. Hodge was absolutely awesome in every respect yesterday - toughness, skill and leadership.

The "let's get Hodge drive" is on - your lefty which you've volunteered and noddy's which I'm volunteering!! :p

The move of Hodge to defence late in the season by Clarkson was a stroke of genius - as well as being the best defender, he is the general that organizes the defence, from where their counter attacks begin.

Outstanding!!

What I can't understand is why do clubs leave him loose half the time. It's like McLeod when he is left loose back there, +30 touches every time.
They don't leave him loose, he just knows how to get loose. He will peel off his man to be a 3rd man up in a contest. He will fly at every contest at 100 m/hr without even a consideration for his own safety, let alone safety of others.

When Matthew Stokes walked up to Hodge, I laughed. Can you seriously say that was the right match up?!

When Rooke went to Hodge we had a cracking match up for a few minutes there. There is another tough SOB. Kamikazee attack on the ball and the man from both. A cracking match up that was.
