This is the place to talk anything Metal Gear, the new Rising game comes out this year sometime which I, personally, think looks like shit. After being forced into combat and killing at a young age to being brainwashed and screwed up mentally, held captive and experimented on, turned into a cyborg against his will, basically having so many bad things happen to him that you are surprised that he hasn't turned the gun on himself yet. In MGS4 Raiden gives his own "worthless" life to help snake. Miraculously he lives and gets fixed up at the hospital and wakes up after surgery to his girlfriend and son. During a beautiful cutscene that really pulls the heartstrings, he decides that after all the bad that has happened to him, he does have a reason to live other than to be a puppet and kill at will. It seems that he goes on to live happily ever after in peace with his family, which is a perfect ending for him.

Metal Gear Rising is set AFTER all this...

Not only have they taken away his perfect ending, they have taken his emotion, his character depth and made him even more of a killing machine than before!
Anybody actually have high hopes for this game?

MGS HD Collection has come out recently which is MGS 2, MGS 3 and Peacewalker re-rendered in HD. The game hasn't been released in AUS yet but i know quite a few people are ordering from the US. My copy is on the way but for those who already have it, is it worth the 50 bucks? does it hold up graphic-wise after all these years?

The next metal gear 'solid' game will most likely be the story of 'The Boss' and her cobra unit. Hideo said in a recent interview that he wanted to go in-depth with the saga, but wanted to wait until he had no other commitments so he could concentrate on just that.

Platinum Games know how to make a game feel good, but my god does Rising 'Revengeance'o) look like utter, utter arse. Not an ounce of interest.

Check out this 'Quick' (Long) Look of the MGS Collection to see how it is graphically, most games getting the HD refresh are looking pretty good and this seems to be sticking to that. Watch out for the moment a little bit in where they can't figure out the rooftop section for a good 5-10 mins though...tedious.

wow that looks horrendous. The dialougue reminds me of the Power Rangers. Maybe its aimed at 12 years olds but I dont know. Raiden has never been a popular character so I dont know why they persist with him but Hideo Kojima must really love him. Seriously I still dont know why he was in sons of liberty when you have solid snake.

As for the HD remakes I def would have bought it if they included a good remake of the orignal but that would have been too hard so they are just cashing in on the easy options. Not getting my money to play sons of liberty again. Snake eater had great graphics anyway so dont now how much of a improvement they would be.

Raiden was, until Rising, a great character. Putting him in MGS2 was a master stroke by Hideo and doing so, gave Snake legendary status.

Kojima said that giving MGS1 a re-render would not be doing it justice, if it were to be re-released, it would be done properly, from ground up. I'm happy to give it a miss for now in order to have it remade completely.

From what I've gathered people have generally gotten over the fact that you didn't play as Solid Snake for long in MGS2. Probably partially because Raiden became more of a bad ass in MGS4.

BTW I think it's set before MGS4 so before he wakes up in the hospital with his wife and child.

EDIT: So they've changed it to take place several years after MGS4?

I can sort of see where they're heading, something bad happens to Raiden and he gets pissed off and his Jack the ripper personality and his child soldier past comes back to haunt him. Looks pretty standard fare and nothing at all like Metal gear. Don't mind a change in genre but bloody hell the gameplay looked awfully boring.

Nevertheless, I'm somewhat disappointing that Rising appears to deviate from your traditional MGS, and whilst I'm not expecting it to be as terrible as some on these parts are suggesting, I doubt It'll have the depth and complexity of it's predecessors.

Would've preferred that the series would end at MGS 4 tbh.

Yeah, chronologically it should finish at MGS4, beautiful ending. However I would love some more prequels (The Boss during the cold war for instance, or even remake the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2)

I'm going to talk about the HD Collection.

So far I've only played through MGS2 but after that alone it is easily worth the money (especially the $50 if your importing). The game holds up today & I'm yet to touch the technologically superior MGS3.

I just went through playing the game for fun, getting as many dog tags as I could & everything you used to do for fun you now get trophies for (not that that kind of thing is the be all & end all of games). Like the increasing your grip gauge via push ups or sending Otacon pics of the pantless soldier all get you shit.

The game is brilliant to mess around in & the graphics have been taken up a notch. They aren't amazing but they still do justice to the scope of the game.

I've completed MGS2 now so I'll be starting MGS3 soon I'll keep up with the running review but the overall theme is BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT!

Thanks for that Big Sauce, I already ordered mine but now I'm really excited about playing it. I was going to play through the series (again) a few weeks ago but I thought I'd wait for this to come.

I'm glad that they have trophies for discovering all the easter eggs in the games (Hideo Kojima is the master of easter eggs)

Peace Walker is said to look rather shoddy on the HD collection. Have it on PSP (bought a PSP only for this game) and it's brilliant if you haven't played it, loads to do in it and the story is awesome, even if it doesn't really clear up Big Boss's future motives.

A MGS1 remake would be epic. Probably still my favourite MGS.

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has reportedly confirmed that there will be a fifth entry in the main franchise.

According to an interview conducted with IG Magazine (via Gamekyo.com and The Escapist), Metal Gear Solid 5 will be running on the Fox Engine, an in-house engine created by Kojima Productions.

Kojima reportedly said that the title will contain more infiltration and possible conversation trees, to further the game's narrative.

"I loved the idea of the social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution that we've seen," Kojima was quoted as saying. "And, if I say more about it, the ninja PR woman behind the door will chop me into pieces."

To be potentially set in Africa, during 1974 and 1980.

No, it's still coming as well.

Most likely was moved to Platinum Games to develop now because of this game (and because it looked woeful - not looking all that different now though tbh).

The trailer after the title "Revengance" looked bad but since then it has looked better. Should still be a good game.
