My thoughts on our playing list in 2006 along with possible delistings and trades.

The Very Good

McLean Neitz Bartram
McDonald Rivers Pickett
Davey Carroll Whelan

The positives (with this group) – McLean, Rivers, Bartram and Davey are all under 23 by the start of season 2007.
The negatives – Neitz, McDonald and Pickett are all towards the end of their careers.

The Good (Most of the time)

Jones Holland Bate
Yze Johnstone Green
Bruce White

The positives – Jones and Bate. Both will be exceptionally good players for the MFC over a long period of time.
The negatives – The rest should be murdering the competition at this stage of their careers. All need to take the next step and improve on 2006 to become consistently very good players. (with the exception of Dutchy, who may only have one year left)

The Good (Some of the time)

Miller (with apologies) Ward Sylvia
Dunn Johnson C Bell
Robertson (with apologies) Godfrey Wheatley
Jamar

Miller was played out of position all year and Robbo played injured all year. Both of these guys will benefit from a break and a good pre-season.

The positives – Sylvia, Dunn, Bell, Johnson and Jamar will all benefit from game time during 2006.
The negatives – Cannot expect great improvement from the rest.

The injured

Johnson P Moloney Ferguson

Positives – All positives here. A backman, a middleman and a forward/ruckman. Nice to have as rookies for season 2007.

Shouldn’t have bothered

Read Brown Motlop

Negatives – All past there used by dates. Would possibly retain Read and Brown only for back up purposes.

Didn’t play and Rookies

Buckley Bizzell Nicholson
Smith Neville Newton
Warnock Hughes Neaves
Gianfanga Bode

Don’t know much about some of these guys but would have 426, Warnock (not sure if he still qualifies under the new AFL rules that allows a player to a rookie for 3 years) and Neaves, plus others on the rookie list. Know that some of you guys have respect for Newton and the other first year players on the main list (Buckley & Neville) must remain for one more.

The Coaching Panel

Never, ever underestimate the amount of work these guys put into their coaching duties. Analysing the other sides is easy, it’s trying to analyse us that is the hard part (the two games we lost to the wooden spooners is a good case in point). Remember a coach is only as good as the cattle he has to work with. And let’s face it, what other senior coaches are available at present that are any good. We do not need or want a rookie coach at MFC next season.

Delistings

Now we need three draft picks so my delistings are Nicho, Motlop and 426 (who will be picked up on the Rookie list). If we want to keep others then Ward, Godfrey, Brown, Wheatley and Bizzell are all in the gun barrel. I know Biz has 1 more year on his contract but I don’t the others contract status.

Trade

The only player listed under delistings that would be of any interest to any other side would be Wheatley, but I can’t see us getting much in return. Certainly enter trade week with an open mind and see who is available but for me I don’t want to trade this year. Just take our 3 draft picks.

List Management

Come the end of 2007 Neitz will retire and other players who could possibly go would be Holland, Godfrey, Wheatley, Read, Brown and a couple from the Didn’t Play & Rookies category who just don’t step up.

And Neale is the man to bring that much anticipated, and long awaited, glory to what has been a starved community of Melbourne Football Club members and supporters.

I’m already looking forward to 2007, for me the glass is half full.

Go Dees

Motlop
Read
Smith
Bizzell
Nicholson

Predicting they will all be gone.

Would still like Wheatley taking kick ins though but unfortunately he aint in our best 22.

It would have been interesting to see how we went with Wheaters in the side for the last few weeks, tallish defender who has played on Pavlich and others before.

I like him, but I wouldn't mind us picking up a good CHB, ie Polak or Hadrill. I think that is really all the MFC requires for next year.

Maybe another middy as well. Read, Godfery could get another year maybe???

I think we need another Key Forward. Someone like a Ryan Murphy. Obviously they wont come cheap though.

I'm going to wear black and sit at the top of the Ponsford Stand all year with a carefully created Philthy statue if he gets delisted.

Better go buy yourself something black to wear then.

We need to make room on our list for the 'super draft'.

Of those I want gone, the following are contracted:
Nicholson (Why god, why? :( )
Brown
Bizzell

The others, I'm unsure about:
Wheatley (trade)
Ferguson is out of contract, but I'd like to keep him
Godfrey, no sure what his contract is like, but we all know he'll stay
Read. No point, he is just no good, get rid of him.
Motlop. Gone.
426. Gone. :o

Ward Bizzell and Godfrey will stay, Nicholson might retire (I hope!).
We need to cut the rubbish and keep moving forward. We're going for broke here, and none of the players I listed above will bring us a premiership.

Reckon we could trade all of them for Juddy's sock?

Agree that we need some room. Should probably get rid of 5 players.

Alister Nicholson should hang up the bots and go out with some grace. If not just delist him and pay him out. Surely his contract can't be worth too much.

One of Brown and Bizzell should also retire although i have the feeling that both will want to hang around. I wonder if anyone would be willing to take Bizzell off our hands? Doggy won't retire but he should. If i had the choice i would keep Bizzell and get rid of Brown.

I would keep read. He is a good depth player if we get injuries to our midfield or our young players go out of form. At worst he will win Sandy another premiership.

Motlop will be shown the door. Just not up to AFL football.

I would like to keep 426 on the list as he has potential. I think his chances depend on whether Nicho, Doggy and Bizz retire or decide to hang around.

Godfrey and Wheatley should go but probably won't. Anyone know there contract situation?

So here if who i hope is delisted:
Motlop
Nicholson
Brown
Godfrey
Wheatley

Who will most likely get delisted.
Motlop
Nicholson
Smith
Read
Bizzell

Delist:
Motlop, Nicholson, Godfrey

Trade (if possible)
Bizzell - maybe to Brisbane for 2nd round pick (with our 3rd round pick)
Wheatley - similar sort of deal

[quoteaptainDavey]Oh just quickly, what are peoples views on Wheaters? I'm thinking he could be used in a trade pretty well[/quote]

I thought Wheats started off well but he got injured thats y he hasnt played much think yesterday was his first game back in about a month but not shore..

I reckon he has alot ot offer MFC if he stays Injury free . nice long kick.

do you guys reckon Mark Jamar was most improved this year???
