Come on NSW you're letting the country down with your backward views...

God I'd love this, then all your 12 year olds wont get their fix of Cawwadooty. Parents who don't know anything about video games will see the R18+ rating and just tell them no.

No worries for me though, I'll be playing BF3 :D

Apparently their AG Greg Smith thinks it's all a joke.

As to the Gamespot quote it just means more delays, needs to be taken off the states.

GameSpot now understands NSW's decision on R18+ could come in the next few weeks. #r18au

Correct but the people attending are saying it's going to happen a lot sooner than people think but that's all they can say.

They could still say no. Also politicians always take forever to do anything, not holding my breath.

"new in-principle deal would keep extreme games out of Australia"

**** I hope we get the details of this 'deal'...could mean jack shit to having the R18+ rating (ie games like MK, L4D2, etc. would still get banned).

Ratings board are independent, I'm happy the R18 is here and MA15 is staying. Was mentioned in one of the articles the likes of L4D2 would now pass as R18+

Yes, I mean let's face it: there are, in all likelihood, more than a few (non-mainstream) games out there in the world that are pretty ****ed up, even by our more permissive modern standards.

R18+ for movies doesn't permit absolutely everything and neither should R18+ for games.

This man speaks the truth

WA politicians rail against R18+ video games

WA member for Swan Hills, Frank Alban, who also signed the petition, said he did not see the sense in having an R18+ classification for games that simulated rape and other extreme violence.

"The morality boundaries are being expanded ... nothing good can come out of it," he said.

"Exposure makes something that's not acceptable now acceptable."

Why do they always bring up "simulated rape" when it is RC now and will always be RC even with an R18+? Even worse, no-one calls them out on it!

I don't think I've ever heard of a game in which you simulate rape.. wtf game do these politicians keep referring too?

THE Federal Government says it will not reverse the decision to introduce the R18 video game classification after reports the Norway terrorist had a collection of violent video games.

He probably owned a lot of things which had nothing to do with why he committed the atrocity, why don't we ban all them?

Hate how they take the worst and associate it with whatever is controversial at that given point in time. Someone should point out that any game that simulates rape wouldn't be allowed. Who would want to buy that anyway?

I hear he also smoked cigarettes, drank alcohol and watched Sesame Street. Time to ban these too!

EDIT: Great:

From fantasy to lethal reality: Breivik trained on Modern Warfare game

The man who killed at least 93 people in Norway described the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as "part of my training-simulation" in his 1500-page manifesto published online just before he embarked on the massacre.

The development has led the Australian Christian Lobby to call for games to be banned if the "violence is excessive or gratuitous", while the games industry argues that singling out a video game does little to understand the greater tragedy.

If anyone does anything bad and they at one point in time owned a video game, it means the video game did it. Clearly.
