Barlow speaking after the game. I love that he never puts a foot wrong. It's not that he's a perfect footballer. Michael Barlow has given a a blunt and honest assessment of the game, both for he and the team, but it's more than that -- you get the sense that he will intelligently work on what he has identified as deficiencies and continually monitor those deficiencies (i.e. he is his own coach). His assessment was honest and perceptive, but also pretty pragmatic. Here's what went wrong, here's why it went wrong, here's what will motivate us to fix it. Footy is still a passionate game, but it's also a profession -- and it's the super professional people like Michael Barlow who will lift their clubs.
All I really wanted to say is that, in any bad situation, the only way to win is to learn. I think, where our club has perhaps previously just tried blindly to lift on the back of passion (in fact, many clubs have), we've become very professional and we now know how to learn. The positive out of today wasn't necessarily that we have Michael Barlow back as a player, but that we have him as a leader for many years to come. You watch, they'll all be as professional as Michael Barlow in a few years time.
