Always on the ball there DABM .......the Crows will recruit Barlow just to thumb their nose at us supporters about introducing new players into the midfield ......very astute
Aren't you the one constantly spruiking Menzel, Doedee and others as midfielders?

This recruitment specifically stops that from happening.

It does. And it keeps one of them out of the 22 completely as well.
yes and they're unproven .....so i guess you were completely against getting Gibbs .....shall we drag up your posts ;)

So he wasn't training hard already? Penny dropping at his age is too late.

Perhaps you missed the part where I said IF what he said is true? I don't know if it's true. It may have just been a throw away line that anybody who is outside of the 22 would say. If it was a big issue, then I assume he would have been delisted rather than re-signed.

If we aren't going to play this guy when he's close to 24, then why the **** is he on our list?

You'd have a point if Gibbs and Barlow were remotely comparable. We didn't pay the price to bring in a genuine A grade midfielder with a skill set that fits our area of need, and instead went with the line of backing organic growth from within. To then go and recruit a lesser senior talent who does not remotely go any way toward addressing our need of polished skills in the middle, regardless of the lower cost, goes against that line from the club.

Their price is different for a reason

And almost every aspect of their play is also different

yes but to the best of my knowledge nothings been confirmed .....has it?

That was not the point you were trying to make .......nice attempt at deflection

Yeah I would turn down Fyfe because he'd keep Menzel out of the team

Gibbs is good

Barlow is average

Sure, both would take up a spot but if our goal is to be good then who cares. I don't think that is our goal though.

What does our trading and delisting tell us about the broad thinking of of our list management team and the coach?

In the last two years we have traded out Lyons and Kerridge, tried to trade CEY, delisted Wright and Grigg and put Thommo into "semi-retirement".

We have traded in Hampton, Seedsman and Menzel and drafted Milera and Greenwood (plus Doedee) who are all quickish players who could play in the midfield.

The two that do not fit the pattern are Gore and Henderson. Gore looks slowish despite reasonable numbers at the combine. Can we play both Gore and Matty Crouch as inside mids? Hendo seems to fit the mould of what we are seeking. He is quick, versatile and has a penetrating kick. Was he asking for more than we think he is worth or is the added element "must be hard at the contest"?

I will be surprised if we pick up Barlow because it means 2 of our 4 main inside mids (Sloane, M and B Crouch and Barlow) are slowish. (It will also mean that CEY is a big chance for the Magarey Medal). I believe we must give game time to Wigg, Knight, Milera and Greenwood in 2017 or we could lose some of them. If Thommo is in the Twos I do not think that CEY steps into his spot and I don't think we intended to use Lyons as one of our main inside mids.

I believe we will get a better direction regarding the thoughts of THE MAESTRO once the trading and draft are completed.
I think that's a bit of a stretch really.

- Kerridge and Grigg weren't in our best 22 or really near it given how few games they were playing. They were delisted/traded because they weren't good enough.
- Wright was playing as a small forward that wasn't kicking goals. His lack of speed wasn't why he was delisted, his lack of ability to get involved in the game was.
- Thompson is/will be 34, most other top teams would have pushed him into retirement yet we've held onto him.
- Lyons the only one that was giving our midfield something. Not really irreplaceable and I suppose we thought whatever we got would be used in a deal with Gibbs or at least a pick to keep us in the top 40 odd of the draft.

Speed/class is always nice to have so it makes sense for us to have gone and chased it via trade to fill a need but I don't believe we're trying to rid ourselves of slow/average speed players. We're just getting rid of dead weight that aren't up to it and there are plenty of slow players in the comp that are.

With how teams look to shut down any run and carry Smith gives us (He was top 5 in metres gained at one point), I definitely think we need someone who's capable of getting us big amounts of territory, especially if the opposition starts to set up their walls again and flood the corridor. Barlow isn't going to give that to us, but I guess if it helps somone else, whether that be Seedsman, Wigg or Hampton to take some of the pressure of Smith then as much as I personally dislike it then we'd have to look at it as an option.

Since when has Gibbs been an A grade mid ?

Gibbs would have been a handy inclusion into our side, but he's not an A grade mid. If he was actually an A grade mid the club wouldn't have hesitated in giving up two first round picks for him.

6PR reckon we are leading the race for Barlow and that he has been really impressed with our professionalism and Pykey. Deal probably done by the end of the week. Will be interesting to see how accurate they are... you know.... considering the acumen and accuracy of certain "journos" in Adelaide.

6PR were the first to break Mitchell to WCE, IIRC?

Welcome to the Crows, Michael
