Seriously that's a much better idea than listing Thommo as a player but to be a coach to save money under the footy department cap.

Our list management decisions definitely suggest that we're going down that path.

I'm the same it's not ultimately what we wanted but at least we're trying to inject something new into our midfield, so I'm all for it.

I think it's more that we're recruiting Barlow so that we DON'T have to inject something new into our midfield

Take CEY out of that side and Greenwood must step up and take a more senior lead in the mid group. CEY stays he continued to be our prime mover.

Rather see CEY taking his next step which is AFL

Honestly don't see CEY getting any better if he continues to just play in the SANFL. It's too easy for him.

Always on the ball there DABM .......the Crows will recruit Barlow just to thumb their nose at us supporters about introducing new players into the midfield ......very astute :rolleyes:

I also doubt him having the ability to become a better AFL player than Lyons was this year let alone that level. Barlow would at least provide us what Lyons gave. We don't have anyone on our list who can replace what Thompson and Lyons provided inside this year in terms of standard.

What does our trading and delisting tell us about the broad thinking of of our list management team and the coach?

In the last two years we have traded out Lyons and Kerridge, tried to trade CEY, delisted Wright and Grigg and put Thommo into "semi-retirement".

We have traded in Hampton, Seedsman and Menzel and drafted Milera and Greenwood (plus Doedee) who are all quickish players who could play in the midfield.

The two that do not fit the pattern are Gore and Henderson. Gore looks slowish despite reasonable numbers at the combine. Can we play both Gore and Matty Crouch as inside mids? Hendo seems to fit the mould of what we are seeking. He is quick, versatile and has a penetrating kick. Was he asking for more than we think he is worth or is the added element "must be hard at the contest"?

I will be surprised if we pick up Barlow because it means 2 of our 4 main inside mids (Sloane, M and B Crouch and Barlow) are slowish. (It will also mean that CEY is a big chance for the Magarey Medal). I believe we must give game time to Wigg, Knight, Milera and Greenwood in 2017 or we could lose some of them. If Thommo is in the Twos I do not think that CEY steps into his spot and I don't think we intended to use Lyons as one of our main inside mids.

I believe we will get a better direction regarding the thoughts of THE MAESTRO once the trading and draft are completed.

I think CEY would surprise if given the kind of opportunity Lyons got this year. I thought he played quite well when Walsh was giving him AFL games. Camporeale didn't seem to rate him as he wasn't seen once during his period as head coach. I know whose opinion I'd give stronger weight to out of those two. We at least find out whether he's an AFL level player for us or somebody for the trade/delist group.

Not really no, he was trade bait this year. If he gets games next year and doesn't cut it then he will be a DFA and we will get nothing.

Why bother even re-signing him to his last contract? He got games, played quite well, then was relegated and not seen again. Smashed the SANFL this year, plays against Brisbane, played well, out of the side straight away, yet Douglas was allowed to spud it up for the majority of the year without looking like getting dropped. If we're going to keep players for years on end, we may as well actually play them at the level they were recruited for at some point, or get rid of them and try somebody else. He's 189cm, 92kg, which offers a point of difference to our midfield and isn't going to develop further by racking up 30 touches a game with ease in the reserves. I certainly hope he plays ahead of Scott Thompson.

What was it that was recently said about CEY .......not the most professional in his preparation?

Not sure what that was in reference to? ......overall fitness, diet, adherence to gameplan ????

I'm not sure. I do remember hearing that upon choosing to stay here that he was planning on training hard to force his way into the 22. So if what you say is the case, perhaps the penny has dropped.

So he wasn't training hard already? Penny dropping at his age is too late.

Didn't he do that in 2014 and spent the entire pre-season training with Kerridge? Or maybe once he got dropped and couldn't get back in under Campo he slipped back into some old habits again?

He certainly doesn't appear to have an afl midfield level of fitness. as soon as there is any sort of spread (even the first handball) he is out of the contest and struggles to make the next stoppage
