I would certainly look at rookie listing Craig Parry from South Adelaide as a insurance ruckman but I am not sure someone who is only194cm is going to be tall enough to play as a ruckman in the AFL.

could be worth a look.
i dont mind the idea of Parry and Gill on the list, just depends what youngsters were available to us.

The main thing I would like to add to the debate regarding the potential recruiting of Michael Gardner is that “you reap what you sow”

If Neil Craig accepts the trade for MG, he will have to live with the consequences and become accountable for that action.

If we have a poor season next year due to this eventuating I wonder what the ramification would be. I am not advocating sacking NC after 1 bad year (don't even go there) but he more than likely would have to look at rebuilding the list.

We're interested in Gardiner?

Disgusted.

If we target this lose cannon with bad knees and serious mental issues, then we can say goodbye to Maric and Meesen. We’re willing to give away two tremendous prospects for a has been that has very little, if anything, still to offer. Words cannot describe how angry this has made me; I cannot believe the club would be as stupid as targeting Gardiner.

Think about what you’re doing AFC, are you really willing to throw away two young ruckmen with outstanding potential at the expense of Michael Gardiner?

Settle, mate :) All that has happened here is
- media picks up on rumour that AFC is "pursuing" Gardiner (with NC visiting Perth), which AFC denies.
- media asks club about Gardiner
- Clubs says only thing you can sensibly say right now - looking at all options, not ruling anything out.

Same as
- media asks club about Roo having Ross River, based on rumour
- club gives honest answer : "could be, we suppose, we don't know what it is"
- BF nuff nuffs say "See? There must be some truth to the rumour"

No need to get disgusted/angry - yet :)

A bit of objectivity here guys. Nothing has happened yet, lets not jump ths gun.

"The situation with Rhett did cause me to sit back and say, 'what's going on here?', but, in consultation with the club and Neil, we felt it was probably best - while that may be a safe option - that in some regards it's time to show some faith in the young guys we have drafted over the last couple of years."

Showing faith in the young guys, looks good to me.

On the prospect of trading for Everitt or Michael Gardiner, coach Neil Craig said: "I have not spoken to them."

"I do not know what their availability is. What I will say is that the charter of our football club has not changed from two years ago, which was to try to play some winning football, and, in conjunction with that, to make sure we stick to trying to build our playing stocks with younger people. I think it is the way to go, so it is unlikely."

Drummond will fix it......:thumbsu:

I believe that Drummond will be personally performing the rubdowns for Meesen before he trains. I'm only worried about what he's actually rubbing onto Meesen's body. We don't want Meesen's salt content getting too high, you know what that can do to the arteries...;)

Todays Herald Sun says Gardiner and Spida maybe on your shopping list. Journos probably just speculating on the news of Biglands injury and Doc's retirement.

That's just a reprint of the Advertiser article.

Correct. Not an ounce of credibility in it.

Club fundraiser!!!

Forget sitting in the coaches' box - for $500 you can do the pre-match rubdown for your favourite player.

 :p

...and move onto Polak :D :p

are you for or against Polak ?

considering our current list "issues"

I am against gardiner I think we need to just bite the bullet and put some time into Meeson and Maric (and pray like hell that Hudson doesn;t go down)

I am not convinved on Polak at all

It will depend on the cost of aquiring him but I would most certainly seriously consider Polak. Wouldn't touch Gardiner with a 10 foot pole considering the ruck options we have on our list and his age.

Polak is still only 22 and despite playing only 11 games this year he is equal 7th in contested marks per game. Right up there with the likes of Sav Rocca, Neitz, Chad Cornes and ahead of Scott Lukas, Nathan Thompson, Brad Ottens, Quinten Lynch etc...

Every coach will take a punt on talent if the price is right. Of all the bad boys out there I would go after Polak by a fair margin. He is still only 22, a key position player with the best footy ahead of him and he can play at both ends of the ground. Seems to be exactly the type of player we currently need.

I like Polak - I always have - we would need to be very carefull about who we give up though.

I don't like the idea of giving up anything other than a third rounder or worse......which probably wouldn't be enough to do the deal

Mad Dog, if that all you are willing to offer you wouldn't even be in consideration. In fact you would probably have the phone hang up on you before you finished the sentence :p

If the club does a great deal of research into the lad and if they think he is worth the shot then I would be happy to give up 1st round pick for him.
