Delisted by Carlton 7/10

Thought he was stiff to be moved on. Probably a victim of the limited number of list spots. Was reasonably comfortable at AFL level. Injury issues through 2021.

Any takers?

We don't have the list spots but I thought he goes alright, tries hard, wins his own ball. Limited but can play a role IMO.

Must be galling to get delisted while McGovern, Williams and Martin put in less effort and get paid upwards of half a million bucks a year.

Realistically he has to realise he has peaked in terms of where his ceiling is (middling player at a middle to low tier club).

Best hope is to probably go to a contender, be a 20-30th level depth player, and hope he can establish a role for 3 or 4 years. I certainly think he could move Dahlhaus out of the side at Geelong, and would play him ahead of Powell-Pepper and potentially Motlop at Port, so there's opportunities but he'd be on minimal contract as no club wants to give a star/solid player 150k less because Gibbons wants 300 not 150k.

Be a good fit for GWS, especially with no Greene for the first month and Hill apparently wanting out.
He's actually an ex-GWS Academy lad, from Lavington. In our circumstances, we could do worse than pick him up DFA or Rookie Draft to cover the immediate loss of Bobby Hill. He'd only be a role player, and depth at that, but while limited he is AFL standard IMHO.

Played out of position at the Blues. He should be a midfielder and didn’t really get his chance to play as a midfielder. Should be on an AFL list, would do well at a club like Hawthorn where they look like getting rid of some good players. If not needs to get onto a VFL, SANFL, or WAFL list.

Victim of being OOC at the wrong time, there's a few others who should have gone first imo
maybe other players that should have gone first, but ultimately i dont think he was really up to the level either and at 27 by the start of next year i dont think you could have been hoping for a big jump in performance.

Not sure why he was never given a run in the midfield. It's not like you guys were stacked in that department.

Because its what we do at Carlton.

We play mids as small forwards (Fisher, Gibbo) or half forwards (Ed Curnow, Dow, Matt Kennedy) wingers (Setters) or HBF's (SPS, Stocker, LOB) and then scratch our heads as to why they never seem to develop as midfielders, and complain that they're not very good in these positions that they shouldnt even be in the first place before delisting them or watching them go to West Coast for a pick in the 50's.

We did this after moving Weitering up forward and ruining his development and confidence forcing him to spend time in the twos, and resting Cripps up forward and as far away from contests as possible because screw his elite clearances and contested work and the fact goal kicking isnt his strength, but hey 'he's really tall and that could help'.

It shits me no end.

At least you don't play gun mids as ruck.

Don't think he would fit in at the Hawks, we just let Cousins go who is a similar kind of player.

100% would take him at the Cats as a Dahlhaus replacement.

Ironically I think Gibbons is more suited to play a role in a good team than a struggling team. I could easily see him playing Spargo's role at Melbourne and being more effective at it.
Massively underrating Spargo's ability and impact, one of (if not) the best and smartest kicks going inside 50 we have.

Gibbons could be handy depth he's not replacing anyone.
