If he were to go wouldn't it be a better for the club he goes as a FA next year? we will get a band one compo pick with the amount of money clubs will throw at him.

there's no compo for a DFA, which is what would be the result of a contract termination. Hurley was an 08 draftee so I guess at best he might be a restricted FA, I'm not sure. Does he qualify?

I'm for keeping the compo system don't like seeing clubs get peanuts in return if they lose a good player. if it does get removed I hope it's not for another year.

No only his word, seems to be the AFL narrative as several media people have mentioned that aswell.
You have to remember the grievance hearing would be ran by the AFL so any outcome would be possible especially as they seem to be in our back pocket as of late

iirc Gill did say players aren't guaranteed at winning at the grievance tribunal.

He won't go as a DFA, as much as I'd like him to come to us in that fashion. I think he will stay, Essendon will ask for a kings ransom (Deservedly so, he is a gun).

Two first rounders or a first rounder + quality player will be starters for negotiation.

As others have said its not that easy to just walk. No guarantee he would win his case at the grievance tribunal. If he goes a deal will be done

Perhaps but this panel will be run by the AFL who are known to manipulate outcomes. Gill has stated that there is a chance he won't win. Guess we just have to wait and see

Wouldn't he leave as a free agent?

He either wants to leave a club that used unknown drugs in him (so probably doesn't worry too much what value a club gets for him) or he wants to stay with his mates.

If that is the case Essendon will receive pick #2 for him as compensation.
