Can Collingwood offer next year's first?

If not I'd ask for Jaime Elliot and De Goey.

Elliot's back is stuffed. He's missed the whole year and had surgery. I recall reading that they won't know if he it's successful until September.

De Goey has a lot of fans, but I think we'd definitely trade him for Hurley as we can cover him.

We would have had Pick 7 this year if not for the Treloar trade. That would have been a good starting point. Pick 7, De Goey and maybe another young promising player or second round pick might have made it interesting. Essendon would probably want more and fair enough.

Cloke and Witts are gone, but I really doubt we can get a first round pick for either of those. Trade week may throw up a surprise with a young player wanting out.

Swan, Toovey, Goldsack and Macaffer will probably all leave and maybe White, Blair or Brown so there's plenty of cash available, but unfortunately we just don't have the pieces.

We have so much free cap available this year, probably more than our competitors.
Also as for Elliot+De Goey?
No chance of it happening. Im confident we can get our hands on a mid 1st rounder and a second rounder for Hurley however.

You won't be getting him for free De Goey is a good starting point.
I thought he hypothetically suggested pick 7(if we still had it), De Goey and a promising young player on top...

I haven't really been following the Hurley details too much until now but I read an article in July saying "The collective bargaining agreement states if a player can prove a breach of contract their club has not been able to remedy, they are able to terminate their contract."
Has something changed that would make this scenario less likely?

First rounder and a decent player as a start I'd think.
As others have said though id be surprised if every club hasn't spoke to his management.

Yeah I agree, it was a stupid article suggesting only 5 teams were after him.
If he were to nominate the Pies I'm sure we can find a first rounder for him. Not sure the player they'd want though.

Typical Collingwood supporters trying to get something for nothing. There are too many Clubs involed for him to walk for free. For all we know Brisbane throw up Pick 2 and 20 and give Hurley 6 mil over 5 seasons.

At least one first rounder and a total trade value of around 2000 points.

I doubt we'll be dealing with Collingwood though, you guys seem to have very little to offer us.

Why does it have to be a certain points value? You guys have 0 use for points with no academy or F/S selection.

"A good starting point" lol
Collingwood won't trade their top 5 draft pick.

No,

It was never likely because, assuming Hurley goes to the grievance tribunal if a potential trade fails, his case won't be heard until some time in February or March and a verdict won't be handed down at the earliest until April. This is based on the last case of this size which went before the tribunal, Lovett vs. St. Kilda. This means he will need to sit out for all of the 2017 season and make it two seasons in a row without football.

His other options, if the trade to the nominated club falls through, are to be traded to a different club or remain with Essendon for the 2017 season and become a free agent afterwards. I assume that order would be his preference as well.

The number points is simply putting a value on the trade. We might not have a quota of points to fill but pick 6 + pick 7 is still a better option than pick 5 and unless you have another system that can represent that then I'll be sticking with the points, thanks.

No and no. What would Essendon want for Hurley in terms of picks?

Genuinely don't think the Pies could satisfy trade requirements.

A top 10 pick would be a starting point.

I also don't really think we could satisfy the trade requirements. But I'd love to see him leave the bombers for nothing as a delisted free agent. I reckon the AFL would like him to leave the bombers for nothing too because it'd make up for the free pick 1 you are inadvertently getting from all your banned players sitting out the year.

Free #1 pick? Bahahaha, we were likely going to finish in the bottom handful of teams anyway.

That's fine, I just find dealing with points can be over complicated and nonsensical since they mean nothing to 14 clubs. If you prefer to deal in points that's your perogative.

A top 10 pick and a decent player I'd think. You're right it would be hard for us to get that pick but I think it's possible. Fwiw I doubt he'll want to come to the Pies.

The age profile of your list suggests your club believes you are smack bang in your window. I doubt you would have been bottom 8, I'd say you would have been top 10 and most likely top 8.

Agreed.

Particularly considering the remnants of our side pushed quite a few this year.

I think 17 clubs would at least be asking.

Of the five or six that have had some print dedicated to them, Pies would be most unlikely IMO.
