Michael Hussey - Torn Hamstring

Damon, have you actually ever watched Fergy bat, or are you just going off stats? He has always been excellent at rotating the strike like Huss does, and then punishing the bad ball.

Hodge has played 8 innings in the 45 over Ryobi Cup this summer for 3 centuries (two big ones) and a half century, at an average of 82, and a strike rate of 97. He's won games off his own bat, has been getting it done at the start of the innings and the end and has been hitting 4's and sixes like they're going out of style.
Ferguson has played 5 innings in the same comp for 1 century (just) and only 57 runs in the other 4 games (average of 14.25 for those games) at a strike rate of 77 and overall average of 39.5.
And some of you want Ferguson!
If it were to happen, Hodge in at 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 depending on who wasn't firing and the others to move down a slot. No big deal. And if it had to be someone to play at no. 6 I'd rather have Hodge spanking 4's and sixes on those small grounds than someone pushing it around.
Hodge aint gonna get picked dude, just be happy you got dud Victorians like Hastings in the squad.

I'm much more of a fan of Australia than I am of the Bushrangers, so I want us (Australia) to pick our very best team. You may put your state first and that's your perogative, but I want to see our best playing in the World Cup, which is why I wanted someone averaging 80odd this summer, at a strike rate of 97, in there, which probably anyone who isn't prejudiced against him or the state he comes from would, if they want us to pick our best team and win this thing.
I probably would have picked Christian ahead of Smith, too, but I guess that would have been OK with you, as he's from your state and it suits you. I'm also very happy to see Hauritz in there and I'm certainly happy to see Hastings in there. And to call him a "dud" just goes to show how much crap you're talking right now. How is that bitterness working for you? You would do well to let it go and taking it out on someone like Hastings isn't the best way to go about it.
If someone who took the most wickets in all 3 forms of the game at domestic level last year and also made plenty of runs and looks to be improving all the time is a "dud", to you, you must be pretty damn amazing. Or full of yourself.

Getting back to Hussey...

It doesn't matter if he isn't back for the warm up ODIs. As long as he'd be back for the super 8s thats all that matters. Bevan came injured to the 2003 world cup and that worked out fine.

People saying Ferguson's not outs count against him in ODI cricket are insane. Would you make the same criticism of Hussey, who also has a large number of not outs. They play the same role, their job is to be there at the end, and they do it well.

I'm just saying he has an unusually high percentage of not outs from a small number of innings, which does inflate his average somewhat. Hussey's large number of not outs inflate his average too, but not as much as they do for Ferguson.

I have watched Ferguson bat a number of times, and I'm not saying he's not talented. I just have my doubts whether he'll maintain his current average in ODIs long term, and whether he's really that good a player. Right now, he's got a better average in ODIs than guys like Ricky Ponting and Dean Jones, both of whom are among the greatest One Day batsmen in history. Does anyone seriously think Ferguson is that good? The numbers (boosted by his unusually high percentage of not outs from a small sample of innings) flatter Ferguson, and serve to overrate him in many people's eyes.

I'm pretty sure AB and co (during their Big Bash commentary) were just saying that Hussey is likely to miss the World Cup.
Shaun Marsh also injured his AC joint or collarbone during the match tonight and was clearly in pain from it during his inningst, at times finishing his shots just holding the bat with one hand and clearly hampered by it. We may end up going through our whole squad of 30, at this rate.

Shaun will be fine

Really, is this his collarbone talking?

Anyway, as I expected, it's not looking great for Mussey, who, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, is "all but certain to miss the World Cup after undergoing surgery yesterday to repair a serious hamstring injury."

Which is a huge blow. Now we're looking like being without our best with the bat in recent ODI's (Hussey) and two of our best with the ball (Harris and McKay). Our depth is about to be tested.

Disappointing, as he's in great touch at the moment:

KFC Big Bash 2010/11

Shaun Marsh (career T20 numbers in parentheses)

Batting Average - 67.33 (45.30)
Batting Strike Rate - 156.58 (135.01)
Balls Per Boundary - 5.16 (5.67)

Would probably be more pertinent if we were going into the T20 World Cup (still don't know why he's not a T20 regular for Australia), but still, good batting form from squad probables is always welcome.

Indeed. Form is form. Someone is bowling a cricket ball to him and he's smashing it out of the park. He can do the same in one day cricket. Hopefully his injury isn't a fracture.

I don't get why he's not in the t20 team. He should be but it may be more crap about him not being able to bowl that keeps him out.

DHussey and Smith in the side for their bowling...

the selectors have gone mad.
I get where you're coming from, but the simple fact is, on a wicket somewhat similar to what we'll confront in the WC, David Hussey and Smith took 4 wickets for 54 between them on Sunday and it could have easily been more like 6 or 7 for 45, if Haddin hadn't missed two stumpings and a probable catch off Hussey's bowling (before Pieterson-one of the missed stumpings- hit him for two sixes).

Marsh is one of the few blokes putting pressure on the current crop of players by making runs.

I get the feeling that if given the chance over the remaining ODI's in Australia, that he will heap the pressure on with an abundance of runs. Would be great partner to Watson at the top of the order, but the selectors seem intent on keeping that for a keeper.
