Career best form, easily. He definitely has added some run and carry to his game as pters have touched on....he was pushing up half-back and the wings a bit.

Jamo, White, Duigan and Yarran were superb on saturday.

One of the in-form defenders at the moment, no doubt about it.

His kicking skills are criminally underrated. Whenever he delivers, the ball travels from point A to B very quickly through the air which is super important against opposition with players with good closing speed. Has great penetration when passing to teammates. He, along with Yarran, provide great surity with ball in hand... always seem to make good decisions.

Been relatively free of injury is doing him wonders. .. Along with a few other factors (Houla, Kreuz, Macca, Bower, etc.) was part of the reason we slumped late last year. ..

Love Jamo and watch his games quite closely. He really tried to provide a lot of run and carry during the second half of last year, as it was seen as the next step for him. He really struggled with this aspect and couldn't get it right, to me looked like he was trying to do too much, resulted in a lot of unusual turnovers for him.

From what I've seen so far he's really doing well, it's so important to our side he plays well. Gun, love him :thumbsu:

Wait, weren't we told in another thread he hasn't improved at all? What do I believe?

I was so at ease when Jamo was in the vicinity on Saturday. Looking awesome at present.

Really in terrific form at the minute.
Cornerstone of our defence.

Given White's form against Essendon, we might be really building a good backline with these 2, plus Bower and Watson

I agree that our backline, which was considered our weakness recently, is starting to look better every game. In Jamison, White, Bower and Watson, we have 4 promising young players who can take the big/medium forwards, and in Laidler, Russell and Duigan, we have 3 young guys who can take on opposing medium/smalls. Add Armfield and Joseph's ability to take smaller opponents and Yarran's ability to create from half-back and our backline is starting to look good. It was only a couple of weeks ago that I expressed some concern about our backline, but it is starting to look more and more like I spoke too soon. I think these guys are looking really good, and should only improve as they get older.

He is the general of our defense and without him it's just second rate. We just need two of him and Waite and we would be set for number 17.

If not for the suspension I dare say that we would all be raving about his improvement a little more. He's just so strong in the contest now and doesn't really lose a one on one. With improvement in his rebounding, he looks set to take the next step and become an A grade defender.

One thing I would like to see him improve on is marking the ball in defense instead of punching it when he has the clear advantage position. He sometimes tries to do the team thing too much and that means he misses out on an easy mark. It's certainly not something to worry about but it's something that could change is game and make him a far more dangerous defender. With his strength now he should be able to do this more often.

Great start so far Jamo, one of our most important players.

McCarthy and McInnes are likely types, but will probably take longer to come on that Watson. I've never pushed Austin up as a future superstar, but at just 20 years of age, he was showing as much as White in 2009. We weren't taken apart by the Saints with Bower, Jamison and Austin as our tall defenders. Similar player to White who can play forward and back, but just too injury prone.

I had forgotten about Austin. I think he has a lot of potential, if only he could string some games together and get up to speed. As for McCarthy, I didn't mention him for a couple of reasons. One is because, as you said, he is likely to take some time to develop enough to play senior footy. Also, I don't know if I see him ENTIRELY as a defender. With Jamison, Bower, Watson and White back there, we are going to have plenty of tall defenders, barring injury. With that in mind, I am picturing McCarthy in more of a Waite role, where he can play at either end and drift into the middle. I think he could make a great forward target with his combination of size and athleticism, and his versatility of being able to play at either end would be very valuable to us when it comes to covering for injuries or exploiting matchups.
