Lions captain Jonathan Brown said on radio this morning that it was partly due to Rischitelli's girlfriend."He loves it up here, he’s got a beautiful girlfriend up here … so he doesn’t want to go down to Carlton," Brown said on Nova this morning.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Everyone is saying he refused to leave the lions, i think its more like he refused to leave Brisbane. With him out of contract next year, watch the GC swoop in, and we will lose him next year for nothing. doubt we would be able to afford to renew his contract next year either.

We get a compensatory pick if he goes to the Coast.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I Highly doubt it will truely 'compensate' us for it though. At least if he goes to the GC i can still follow half follow him. In essence, Riska staying has cost us Hendo and our pick 12. I dont think we are getting that back this time next year.

I dont hold anything against Riska though, top bloke and glad he is still around, but that is the price we have paid to have him for a year, and i can't see us being 'compensated'

Re: Michael Rischitelli

You can't blame Richitelli for losing Henderson...blame the lacky's who caved with about 3 and half hours before the trade period finished. Carlton would have buckled in the end and if they didn't, no loss. But no we gave them the house and got reemed.

No one is blaming Richitelli. Just remember that while Richitelli said no to Carlton, Lachie said yes (God help him).

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I think people might be jumping the gun a bit in saying that Rischitelli is a certainty to go to GC. A lot can happen in a year of football. Likewise, who is to say that he isn't committed to the Lions, as opposed to just hanging out for a good deal with the GC? I think this is a matter of guesswork at this point in time.

With that being said, he'd probably be a good pick-up for GC. He's a solid contributor who can be relied upon to perform a role each week. Chances are that he'll have 100 games under his belt and be at the point where he can get to the peak of his game. His work ethic and toughness at the contests would see him capable of taking on board some sort of leadership role in a new team with a lot of young players.

Mind you, I would also say that Rischitelli is the sort of good player that if we can afford to lose if we must lose a good player. Whilst he has been around the best ten players in the team over the last few years going on B&F results, on talent and importance to the team, he is probably more in the category from 10-25. Poor form may see him lose his spot in 2010 due to the increased depth as a result from trading.

Therefore, rather than losing gun players like Adcock, Drummond, McGrath, Clark, Patfull, Brennan or Sherman, who may be able to get more money at GC, I'd prefer that we pass off someone like Rischitelli.

IIRC,in an interview,Rischa did say he loved the club and being coached by Vossy.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I think the argument is that Hendo wouldn't be a 'fringe player' for long. 20 year old KP player who will turn out to be a very good player.

But he still isn't ready to dominate and take us to a Grand Final, and with Fev, Bradshaw and Brown around, he is still a frindge player for another 2 years until Bradshaw is gone.

We have lost NOTHING from our playing list last year, and gain the AFL leading goal kicker, and getting his salary paid by his former team. You can't get much more of a win than that.

Trading Hendo was only a bad move if we planned on rebuilding over the next 3 years, which clearly we aren't.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

His last contract negotiation - where his agent suggested that if we didn't stump up the big $$ he'd be off cause he just LOVES Melbourne - created a lasting impression that he was basically vulnerable and didn't really have his heart in it. I'm sure that's why he was put up - you reap what you sow.

He really needs to show a hell of a lot to redeem himself IMHO over all this - or get a new agent.

Most players' managers test the market to negotiate a more favourable deal for their clients. It's unfair to single out one player on this, when even Browny's manager wasn't immune to this style of negotiating.

My thoughts too.

Yes .. but he's not Brown. If he was, well wouldn't we all be thrilled !! It just meant his name was ALWAYS being thrown up .. that's the why bit.

But I guess the point is that players are allowed to test the value of their assets on the market in order to better their position. Once they have done so, it is hard to deride the club for doing something similar.

Loyalty isn't a one way street. Daniel Merrett for example is extremely selfless and unambitious at contract time. The club is likely to reciprocate that sort of loyalty.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Heard on SEN (so just hearsay) by a presenter not a caller, that a director or board member of the scum dropped Rischi off at the medical centre for his medical, and then nobody remembered to pick him up.

Rischi had to call his manager to organise transport for him, now if thats true, it would be fair to say it wouldn't have left the best impression on the boy.

If thats true..... Carlton can go F*** itself. Thats just totally unacceptable . Rischa doesn't deserve that.

I don't really think its as big a deal as you're making it out to be. People make mistakes and he's a big boy, he can easily just call a cab.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Thats not the point...if true, it smacks of a very unprofessional organisation, and a not really interested attitude.. I'd be peed off too..

So glad he said NO..

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Maybe Carlton weren't really interested in that first trade at all. Had their eyes on a better prize all along.

Don't know about that - Hendo's manager came out and said the deal was dead until Henderson said he was willing to move to Melbourne, last minute.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I hope I'm wrong, but I see Rischitelli, at best, a bench warmer.
Just too slow for modern footy and unfortunately doesn't have that innate ability to find space.
Big hope is to get the taggers roll.

2008 Review

2009 End of Season Review

Rischitelli played all 24 games in 2009, with a season high disposal count of 21. Playing more as a half forward, he showed greater reliability in front of goals than previous years, kicking 13 goals. But his performances were just OK and he was never really able to stand out. It was probably a disappointing season in that it would have been hoped that he could improve to the point where he was having a noticable impact on games. His performances didn't necessarily decline, but with other players increasing their output, Rischitelli dropped from 6 to 11th in the Merrett-Murray medal. The lack of star quality is now starting to give the impression that there is little improvement left in his game.

Rischitelli had an interesting end to the season, with his national profile escalating. First he was the victim of an eye gouge from Chris Judd in the elimination final. The incident became even more bizarre when Judd claimed he was targeting pressure points which he had learnt from Steven Seagal movies. Then in trade week he was offered (with Bradshaw) as trade bait in a deal to land Fevola. With his girlfriend living locally Rischitelli made the bold decision to stay.

These events make for an interesting year in 2010 and throw up a few questions. What is Rischitelli's value to the club, and where does he fit into Voss' plans for the future? What will Voss and Rischitelli's relationship be like? (Already there are rumours Rischitelli could be heading to the Gold Coast). And most importantly, how will Rischitelli respond to the somewhat demeaning experience of being put up as trade bait.
