The 24 year-old will become the first player in Club history (Fitzroy and the Bears included) to have worn the Number 35 guernsey for 100 matches.

Lion Michael Rischitelli rejects Gold Coast move

BRISBANE Lions midfielder Michael Rischitelli has denied he's bound for the Gold Coast and is keen to stick with Brisbane despite being offered as trade bait last year.

After an up-and-down six years at the Gabba, Rischitelli will line up for his 100th AFL match on Saturday night against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Since knocking back a proposed switch with Brendan Fevola to play at Carlton, rumours have been rife that the Victorian product would jump ship to the Gold Coast at the end of this season.

But Rischitelli said today he wasn't interested in being the uncontracted Lions player to sign with the local rival.

Hammo

Lions midfielder Michael Rischitelli has claimed he is not headed to the Gold Coast and wants to stay in Brisbane despite being offered as trade bait last year.

Rischitelli will play his 100th AFL match on Saturday night against the North Melbourne Kangaroos at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium after six volatile years in Brisbane.

6 volatile years?

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Always had faith he would stay a Lion....Thankyou Michael, thats brilliant news:thumbsu::)
Jumping the gun a bit. It's only fodder for the masses MacMum. The inflection of the words did not resonate with any certainty. It's what one expects a professional player to say on the eve of his 100th game. Actions are more important than words.

I agree with the point you make, but if he wasn't sincere he's a damn good actor.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Agree with irel on this one and when I saw the news last night, Rischa was not at all convincing re the Gold Coast and actually looked uneasy answering the question. As irel said, what else would he say on the eve of his 100th.

2010 is shaping as one of his finest seasons yet. He is currently ranked first in kicks, handball, inside 50s and total disposals at the Club and is ranked second only to skipper Jonathan Brown in marks.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Rischa has really stepped it up this year, full credit to him, he was probably entitled to not care as much after being put up for trade. He seems to love the Lions and enjoy playing under VOSSY. I have a feeling Rischa stay at Brisbane because Brenna will be at the GC.

Oh!:(....I had only read it, didn't see him say it.....I agree, the two can be very different..

...can only hope he means it....I really would be sad to see him go to the GC, and that includes Jared as well..

Michael Rischitelli, Brisbane Lions, has been charged with a First Offence for engaging in a melee at half time of the Round 13 match between the Brisbane Lions and Richmond, played at the Gabba, on Saturday June 19, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a $1200 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for engaging in a melee is a $1600 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $1200 sanction.

Voss said he hadn’t spoken to Rischitelli about his plans but that the 24-year-old was eager to remain at the Lions after rejecting a trade offer to move to Carlton.

“He didn’t want to go anywhere else and that came through loud and clear at the end of last year,” Voss said.

“I’m sure Gold Coast has been talking to a lot of players and maybe Michael has been one of them, but I know where his heart is and I know where his head is and that is all I’m concerned about.”

Mid Season Report

B&F leader
Consistent midfielder Michael Rischitelli might have the nod in an extremely tight race. He has 25 or more touches in nine matches this year, works hard in tight, and averages four tackles a contest. Jonathan Brown, Simon Black and Brent Staker could also make claims, but this race is far from over.

Michael Rischitelli in rare form but no certainty to stay with Brisbane Lions

MIDFIELDER Michael Rischitelli has shown character and class of the highest order, as he builds a case to be the No.1 shining light in a Brisbane Lions season showing no signs of arresting a downward spiral. His possession rate is up 50 per cent to 24 per game and he leads the side in possessions and clearances. Also, he's second behind Daniel Rich in contested possessions and inside 50's, and third in tackles behind Jack Redden and Rich.

Rischitelli has been positively outstanding in his seventh season, but even that might turn out to be a disaster for coach Michael Voss, if suggestions of his defection to the Gold Coast next year are on the mark. Even though Rischitelli was told he wasn't in the Brisbane plans, he knocked back a rich three-year contract at Carlton to play out the final 12 months of his Lions contract. You can read that three ways. He really hates Melbourne, he really loves Brisbane, or there's something fishy going on.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I just don't feel easy reading or listening to comments by people in the media who are player managers.

Never sure what to believe.......

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Is Lynchy hinting that Rischa had a contract offer from the GC last year and that is the reason why he didn't want to go to Carlton?

If he goes the Lions better get at least GCs second round pick because it'll definitely leave a hole in the Lions midfield.

He is uncontracted, so the AFL will decide what we get, and when.:o
