It was time to make a statement that players weren't going to escape blame by killing off another coach like they have done before, multiple times. This is about our club taking a stand to me.

That would be a good idea if we had a strong coach.

But keeping on an average coach to send that message could be harmful to the club. I'm not on board with the decision at all but obviously love the club so I'll stupidly keep supporting. I think history across two clubs has shown he's not a good coach. At both clubs he's coached at he's had tails wagging the dog... Why?

It's all well and good to say we need to take a stand.. but you want to be taking a stand behind the right guy. Not just making a decision to be different than the past.

He'd had 3 years of yearly improvement, followed by 3 years of finals. It's a lot more desirable than voss' coaching record.

3 years of getting humiliated in Elimination Finals you mean? Including losing to 9th after finishing 5th?

end of 2016 in their final game they got belted by like 80 points, Dusty was still uncommitted beyond 2017, the Richmond footy boss came out and publicly said they ****ed up their list build, then deledio walked out, then they almost had a board spill. Yet they still managed to land good assistants.

How is that more desirable than Voss' record? He hasn't been amazing but he's made finals 2 out of the 4 years with one of them being a Prelim.

Yeah, it is pretty funny - everyone has been saying Wright will make some big moves and will be the saviour - but now he has backed Voss he apparently doesn't know what he is doing.

This season has been cursed since our ex president had his phone hacked and quickly followed by Jagga doing his knee - and more than a little of them blame can be levelled at Voss but with McKay barely playing, Newman (2nd in our last 2 B& F's) missing the whole year, Curnow having knee surgery at both ends of the year (points a lot to him having knee issues most of the year), Walsh managing just 12 games (plus missing players like Kemp, Cottrell and E Hollands - with JSOS only managing 13 games) and our team being absolutely dead last for disposal efficiency - there is a distinct possiblity that with a little bit more luck on the injury front and getting some quality ball users in the off season things could turn around very quickly.
I have everything crossed JR.

I hope you're right, I just can't see it. According to the Herald Sun we're looking to get Hinkley in to help (behind paywall and HS so grain of salt and all that). Not on that list we had here but hey, why the hell not.

Well according to those who count, he can coach and perhaps those around him cant.
The club has made a statement, the tail no longer wags the dog and I farken love it. They'll get my 3K for memberships in 2026.

So is it the senior coach who has the final say on game plan? So if Voss can coach as you say then why is he listening to people who supposedly can't? So Voss didn't coach at all on game days the assistants did?

Me: 'uses Hardwick, Buckley & McRae as examples'

Poster who just wants blood: 'omg stop comparing us to richmond 2016'

:drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk:
Highlighting two of the biggest success stories in AFL is no better.

Why do we continually ignore all the times it goes wrong?

Sorry but nothing about this year or last year indicates we’re only a couple of strong footy people away from being Collingwood or Richmond.

I think Voss has had plenty of assistants to support. Ash Hanson for one has been highly regarded for ages.

I've posted about it before, but watch the AFL Amazon Doco - they follow the Tigs 2020 year.

After 3QT of the grand final, dimma gets up in the box last and is absolutely clueless as to who's on the ground/starting where and what the plan is - he just asks his assistants. He's basically just man managing throughout the game and pretty much barracking - occasionally getting on the phone to players feeding back random bits he's picked up on the game.

What he is doing outside of that is leading the group - delivering the overarching message of what they want to achieve and how they want to play.

This is obviously only 1 example of a single team, but I found it pretty compelling insight into the modern game.

what were post-2017 Collingwood's indicators? Was it the insufferable, highly strung coach who was taking them backward every year? The $1m Chris Mayne contract? The bursting salary cap?

This might be the wrong decision but I doubt it will be because nobody will want to work for Carlton/Voss.

Collingwood?

Maybe because they’ve continually been one of the better run clubs since 2000.

Fantastic veteran leaders remaining on their list.

The cherry on top was Nick Daicos a generation type talent walking in too.

Our veteran players leadership has left so much to be desired. We’ve got blokes pissed off. Draft pick whiffs.

We are not the Pies

Nick Daicos took them from 9th to a GF at the age of 13? that's huge.

You said post 2017.

If you want to talk about 2018, the same stuff still applies.

What on earth about Carlton indicates to you we have strong leadership, are a well run club etc?

Collingwood this century don’t do down periods. They consistently make finals because they are very well run.

So half the players aren't happy and want to leave, the game plan is outdated, the culture is toxic and Voss lacks tactically but hey he is the man. Same shite different day.

The fact Wright, the incoming CEO who has lived and breathed at the club for the last 12 months, decided to make the recommendation suggests all those things you have mentioned might not be as true as some on here have led everyone to believe.

We can’t be all on a hard on that we got GW this agent of miracles and his recommendation is to keep Voss and then be upset that it’s the wrong decision.

As much as we all watch our team and we think we know what we’re looking at or talking about when it comes to the “game plan” and tactics and game day changes we all (and I mean all unless there’s posters who are also AFL coaches and players on here at Carlton) know absolutely **** all about AFL football and what the team is actually trying to do out there.

For all we know Michael Voss has a good game plan and the players just can’t execute it, maybe there is ample Vision with analysis that GW took the board through to back this up. I bet there was because that’s how professional sport works.

I back GW decision because I am humble enough to realise I don’t know the game plan

This is simply not true.
However anyone who wants to leave should go - and ensure we get appropriate compensation which involves gaining players who really covet the CFC guernsey.

Is this team of new assistants going to come in on one year contracts? Most likely not. So how are we going to sack Voss next season when we’ve picked new assistants for him? And if Ken comes in, who says a new coach would want to be lead by him?

This feels like if we see any improvement at all next season, Voss will be extended.

Having a head coach whom can inspire and rally the players by tactical improvisation and an exciting game plan, would attract quality players whom may covet the CFC guernsey.
Not overwhelmed by Graham Wright's recommendation of Voss. Let's hope he will be the visionary and capable operate that we had hoped and desperatly need.

They may as well come out and say it and tell us we're aiming for bottom 6 next season and set our expectations to the right level this time.

We’re obviously going to be more ambitious than the bottom 6 - we’re setting our sights on beating Richmond
The thing is you are being sarcastic but on further thought, I don't have any confidence we would beat Tigers round 1 next season. Carlton in the 'moments' that Vossy talks about have now progressed to losers with their current confidence levels shot.

That is the type of confidence Vossy has installed in us as supporters through seasons.
