So half the players aren't happy and want to leave, the game plan is outdated, the culture is toxic and Voss lacks tactically but hey he is the man. Same shite different day.

Seeing this argument a lot.

End of 2016 Richmond landed Caracella - who was the highest regarded Assistant in the league, along with Leppitsch. Dimma had achieved SFA and the club almost had a board spill after they didn't sack him.

When McRae came on board, he had a team of excellent assistants, despite being a rookie coach.

Shit, even Nathan Buckley - one of the most difficult personalities in the industry since the 90s, who took his team backwards every year for the first 5 years managed to get Justin Longmuir, Brenton Sanderson & Robert Harvey working under him.

I think the idea that nobody good will work under Voss is a bit made up, imo. There could be several motivating factors for an assistant coach that we don't know about.
I really wish people would stop comparing us to Richmond 2016.

We’ve been hearing that silly comparison for years.

Agree.

If the club tells us top 4 at the start of the season and we finish bottom 7 or so. That isnt outside noise. It's failure to meet requirements.

Some posting is hard to read.

This is different to the usual 'full support of the board' statement often made by Presidents just before sacking a coach. This was Graeme Wright's recommendation to the board. I imagine that It's not a recommendation he has made lightly, people have been talking up Wright for ages, this is his first big decision. Surely you think he knows what he's doing.
Yeah, it is pretty funny - everyone has been saying Wright will make some big moves and will be the saviour - but now he has backed Voss he apparently doesn't know what he is doing.

This season has been cursed since our ex president had his phone hacked and quickly followed by Jagga doing his knee - and more than a little of them blame can be levelled at Voss but with McKay barely playing, Newman (2nd in our last 2 B& F's) missing the whole year, Curnow having knee surgery at both ends of the year (points a lot to him having knee issues most of the year), Walsh managing just 12 games (plus missing players like Kemp, Cottrell and E Hollands - with JSOS only managing 13 games) and our team being absolutely dead last for disposal efficiency - there is a distinct possiblity that with a little bit more luck on the injury front and getting some quality ball users in the off season things could turn around very quickly.

Me: 'uses Hardwick, Buckley & McRae as examples'

Poster who just wants blood: 'omg stop comparing us to richmond 2016'

Another lost season ahead? Perhaps we’ll do better, who knows.
At least it’s only another year, after decades of dismal seasons , another year won’t make much difference.
Let’s see if Austin and Llyod survive too?
The politically correct move again by the CFC board.
Voss is uninspiring and lackluster and not performing, yet it’s more of the keep calm and carry on attitude, let’s see where it will lead us to.

This is the first time that we have taken a different option to sacking the senior coach. If it was a matter of keep doing what we usually do, he would have been sacked and then most likely in 3 years' time, we'd be in this situation again due to papering over all the other problems.

The issue for me is we have to employ people who seemingly can coach on their own right to support a guy who can't coach on his own right. Why don't we just employ a guy who can coach in the first place.

Well according to those who count, he can coach and perhaps those around him cant.
The club has made a statement, the tail no longer wags the dog and I ****ing love it. They'll get my 3K for memberships in 2026.

Hardwick came in to a bottom team, won more games each of his first 3 seasons, made finals 4th, 5th, 6th year then had had a bad 2016. Slightly different trajectory to Voss who came into Brisbane and made finals first year, before dropping to bottom 4 and staying there. Then coming to us and making finals twice (effectively once) in four years.

Anyway, we're stuck with him. Hopefully we can get some decent people around him. I'm just a little depressed at the prospect of another year of it.

For sure, but I still wouldn't have classed Hardwick & the Richmond job desirable to work for - yet they managed to attract good assistants.

Certainly a huge risk for the club, hopefully GW has a plan.

The two things aren't mutually exclusive. You can sack the coach and address other issues as well. But we've chosen our path now let's see how it goes.. MV is made of Teflon and the one guy made of even more Teflon is Hinkley. With the two in place they'll never be moved on.

Even the most successful coaches have relied on assistants to support them. It's much more of a team approach than it ever was before, you need a diverse skillset amongst the group.

I have been waiting for this for years; it gives me a lot of hope for the future of the Club.

He'd had 3 years of yearly improvement, followed by 3 years of finals. It's a lot more desirable than voss' coaching record.

It was time to make a statement that players weren't going to escape blame by killing off another coach like they have done before, multiple times. This is about our club taking a stand to me.

Consistency in decision making from the board , I'll give them that. Results will show the quality of the decision heading into next year.
