he did well.

this time last year i predicted he would have got a baggy green in 12 months. he took a bag in a 2n 11 game.

Sure I'm a bit biased but I thought Micky's first spell in test cricket was very promising. Probably the best spell of spin bowling from an Aussie all series. He'll take some scalps.

That wouldn't be too hard, especially considering we haven't played a specialist spinner the last two tests.

Beer bowled quite well though, wouldn't be surprised to see him end up with a few wickets by the end of the test. Bit unlucky not to have one already.

Beer was a full head of steam I reckon !
Don't know about that other fella from NSW, don't think he's up for it I reckon.
Another mistake from our selectors.
Get rid of Hilditch & Cox, and bring in Swampy Marsh as a selector !
Chappell, Boon & Marsh !

Didn't look out of place in the test arena which was good. Don't think he'll ever be a star bowler but more the type that will do a job for you. If he can take 2/70odd then he's done well.

In a team with more consistent fast bowlers, he could easily play a Paul Harris role. That said, a solid start, but needs to pick up some wickets tomorrow to consolidate on this.

Still feel Hauritz is the best option at the moment however.

Quoted for truth! :thumbsu:

Micky Arthur has been saying that Beer reminds him of Paul Harris (who i think is a very good spinner) greatly.

Also said that if he was a South African, chances are he would be playing for their Test team right now. Hence he sees him as a better version of Paul Harris, great compliment!

Started well today, shame about the no-ball but things like that happen in games. Showed some character in keeping the spell tight and dangerous at times after that disappointment early.

Keep it up Pinta :thumbsu:

Looked good today, certainly enough to persist with. His control was good, and his flight and drift was promising.

Hope he starts tomorrow as well.

Harris gets a little more drift.

Beer gets enough drift and dip. He's going to be a handful.

The type of bloke who strangles wickets and builds pressure from one end.

Half the equation for a bowling partnership.

Meh! Did okay I guess, but he bowls this left arm orthodox stuff and I can't see him causing too many troubles to batsmen once they've seen him in, and I've also got no time for spinners who can't keep their front foot behind the line.

Then again, if Swann is supposed to be the best spinner in the world, maybe Beer isn't in too bad a shape.

Whats it like being you mate, are you doped up all the time or what? You sound like a head case.

I thought he bowled pretty well, but I also thought Clarke captained him well. Set fields that allowed Beer to give the ball a bit more flight. I'd be interested to see Hauritz bowling under Clarke to see whether he'd stop bowling darts. It's clear that Ponting has no clue when it comes to captaining spinners.

Considering Warne pretty much captained himself and was responsible for his own field placings, you could either argue that a) Ponting has never really had to set fields for a spinner until lately and therefore has no idea or b) Ponting had years and years of plotting field placings with the best spinner and greatest spinning mind of all time and didn't learn squat.

Ponting still doesnt know how to place a field for a spinner, you will notice when Warne was on he would place his own field. I can recall a few times MacGill arguing with Ponting for field placements.

Fact is there is Warne - - - MacGill > Daylight in quality comparission to this test, and thats including Swann as well.

He bowled well enough to warrant his selection, great to see him get a wicket.
Still remember meeting him at the WACA, players were signing stuff and Beer came over and everyone walked off besides us few. 'Does anyone want mine?'

Seems like a great guy though, hopefully he has a solid international career.

didnt deserve a call up. however he is doing well. still think doherty was hard done by.

So Beer didn't deserve a call up, but by the same token Doherty was hard done by?

Doherty played 1 good Sheffield Shield game, and 1 good ODI, and everyone jizzed. The first left arm darts bowler to play Test cricket.

Beer is such a superior bowler (in the longer form) it isn't even funny.

meh will be an avg player an if given 10-15 test will prob avg close to what hauritz does
but since hauritz is a better batsmen surely he should get selected ahead of beer.

But Aussies are obsessed with seeing the ball turn away from right handers ever since Warnie thats why there giving these lefties a chance at the big time.

Doherty wasnt hard done by, he never should of been selected.
Barely good enough to get games at state level.
Hes a poorer version of Hauritz in his earlier days where he would bowl nothing but darts to try an keep runs down.
