You've stayed your position on this multiple times. I understand and even agree with the logic, but they've said we are only taking one.

Why not take it at face value? It's not like it's a second hand rumour. Agresta says it himself in the gettable video.

Cook said in interview before last game we were looking at one player also.

I think another aspect of not using the 2nd pick is the depth of talent isn't really that good. It's not as though though there's a stack of 22-24 yr old guns just waiting to be found in the lower leagues and we're shooting ourselves in the foot by passing on a 2nd pick. It's a crapshoot at best.
If someone we would have taken at our first pick is still there at the second....

We might have a couple of Irish semi-commitments at the end of the season as well as the Campo's and 1 or 2 draftees and Haywood, who knows?
Might just potentially be full, list wise without adding anymore now.
Agresta mention four changes IIRC, so two father-sons, one FA and one Cat B could be it

Thought I heard draft four, and mentioned that factored in rookies.

Thinking any possibility of a free agent may be a seperate issue.

We need to factor in an elevation for Boyd as potentially part of our required three main list changes. Agresta was questioned factoring in the inclusion of Duffy on our list. Duffy takes either a Cat A or a Cat B rookie spot. I took it as being four draftees PLUS Duffy. I view it likely that we add a third Irishman to our Cat B list and Duff takes a Cat A spot.

Elevating Boyd creates one rookie spot (potentially taken by Duffy.)

Leaves five rookies (Cat A)
Cincotta and O’Keeffe surely get extended. Note both would need elevation end of ‘25.
Mirkov - Would require elevation or re-rookie. Most have him delisted.
S.Durdin - Theoretically good back up. Has missed his fair share of games injured or suspended. Would need to be elevated end of ‘25. Unless Young is traded, hard to see Nigel staying on.
M.Carroll - Has a one year contract and yet to get on park. Hopefully gets games after the bye. With the pressure on injury prone players could get a vicious cut. 6 months younger than any other player on our list. Listed 188cm, but I suspect grown to 3rd tall height (would love confirmation or otherwise from those who may see him) With a number of tall defenders maybe in the gun, may be worth retention if he can play out the season.

So two (or more) of Mirkov, Durdin and Carroll likely to be moved on, leaving as many vacancies.

Fogarty, Owies, J.Carroll, and the injury prone Martin, Marchbank and Cuningham are the off contracted main list players from whom we are obliged to remove a minimum of three players via trade or delisting. That is unless we have a viable trade offer for another contracted player. The remaining option would be to manipulate numbers by placing a contracted player on the rookie list. That player would require delisting and redrafting, so there is some chance another club may swoop in as North Melbourne did with Greenwood.

List spots are desperately tight, fully explaining why we will only take one pick in the MSD, as each pick effectively reduces the available spots on the 2025 rookie list should the player(s) be good enough to retain(which we surely want them to be)

Spoke to a friend on the weekend who knows Matt Carroll well. He's been struggling with OP. Has no guarantees of a new contract, so is definitely hoping to get on the park soon. No ETA (i.e. my friend didn't know, Matt may).

Was thinking it was OP with such a long term unspecified groin injury, really do hope the kid can get on the park at some point, would hate for him to go after 1 year and 0 games at any level

Caleb Ernst another forward on the msd medicals list
194cm. Coburg VFL. 21yo
Can't see much about his footy but seems he's of Nigerian decent, got suspended from school over dreadlocks and recently had a assault charge allegedly retaliation to racism.
Missed a lot of last year with OP.
Signed with Prahran but has played most games with Coburg this season.

Wish I'd posted this earlier, as it was something I was thinking about. But I wonder if the reason we're only taking one at the draft tomorrow is that we don't want to put Doc on the Inactive List... just in case he could get back for the finals. Now, seeing that he is back to running, I'm thinking this might be more than a possibility. Similar to McStay at the Pies.

Apparently the Suns and Dockers have decided not to use the picks that they had available to them before ours.

Norm Smith medalist contender? I like it. 😁

Can you imagine the melts on here? An earlier than prescribed return.

Not a medico, but clearly was a minor/partial tear, given his return to the game. Not sure that means a quicker rehab period.

Irish junkets, what a crock…

Why can’t we push the AFL for a zone in the NT and harness some electric indigenous talent from our own back yard, support, grow the game and do good for our own country and community…

There was a report out of the club a few months back saying the club is now fully engaged in securing an NGA zone and hadn’t until this year given it the required planning and attention.

Which to me seems weird but is an indication of how far behind we have been over the journey.

Be great if we could invest in Sudanese players, instead of our fixation in the Irish.

Could they potentially leave a list spot open for a Sam Docherty return late this year???

Nah I reckon there is a snow ball’s chance in hell that Doc is back this season.

The risk of re-injury coming back inside a year is too high and if he was to not get back next year he would be done.

Peris is an interesting one. That one game he played for the Saints he had 13 touches, 3 marks, 3 inside 50s and 4 tackles. I have no other context of his career and sure he didn't kick a score, but if he was playing forward as a youngster on debut it's not the worst game, stats wise.

Between this and the revelation Russell had too many areas of responsibility to cover in his initial appointment, it beggars belief that Brad Lloyd still has a job.

It also makes you wonder what the point of that external review done in 2021 was if things like the 2 glaring gaps identified recently are only being actioned now.

An example of asking the right questions
