If it were Perkins maybe. It’s not that delusional (even if Eth says so), to prefer a certain player with a high output. Durham is a fantastic footballer with inspiring qualities. You can also believe that Newcombe has had the better career thus far and still prefer the footballer that Durham is, and can become. It really isn’t a delusional perspective… unless you say so mate…

Both Durham and Newcombe are wonderful players and Durham could become a better player and has a sharp trajectory but Newcombe has been clearly better so far in my mind.

Yeah, well that’s not how I was framing the question. You can prefer Durham without him having had a better career (thus far). As I explicitly said, ‘he brings more to the table’. Newcombe might bring the main course. It might be a rack of lamb but there are vegetarians at the table. And here’s Duz, providing a range of sides and desserts as well as an inspiring cocktail to finish the evening with. Plus I can see that the quality of his dishes might lead to him being a very good chef in years to come. I think that’s a fair assessment and hardly qualifies as delusional.

I initially asked the question to deliberately generate discussion about the best 2 from the MSD who are also quite different players.

Makes sense the end of that list is a bunch of solid VFL/fringe AFL guys.

since we seem to have two many B grade best 22 players and some list bottlenecks it seems more likely that the focus is on fixing that upper end rather than throwing away decent players at the bottom end for no reason
