I know this has probably been done before but why doesnt the afl have a mid season draft where each team after round 11 can pick up a player from the state leagues. The team that is in last position gets the first pick and so on like the normal draft. However u can only pick a player thats at least 20 years old. Maybe at the end of the year this player can be placed on the full list or rookie listed. This would make the season more exciting especially for the lower teams if some mature aged player is carving up in the WAFL, SANFL, VFL and would be a needed boost for some teams that are lacking in certain areas. It would also be encouraging to the older players in the state league in that they would get another chance for the big show. What are your thoughts?

Would it be an extra spot on everyones list?

Also it might be a little disruptive if a player is moving from West Perth to Brisbane, and he is not starting 22 quality - he has to find a home in the QAFL and WP miss out on one of their better players?

It has some merit but personally I think the issues would outweigh the benefit.
