Kreuzer and Casboult and Gibbs are all great players we should keep.

But we are unlikely to be competitive next year so selling high also makes sense.

Hard to know which is the better option, but it is awful losing good players every year.

Our outcasts playing well elsewhere shows we could have been so much more.

None of the ones we lost (other than Betts) would get a game in our current side. Josh Kennedy doesn't count as he wasn't a regular when he left.

Better for the next few years (4-5)? I will concede he may continue to rise another 3-5% at most, but you risk losing a whole lot more if this is based on emotion, rather than sound economic planning

Mate - after the way The Club allowed a blow in from Collingwood to coach the side and destroy the list, I threw away my rose coloured glasses. I'm all for a full rebuild but blokes like Kreuzer/Ed Curnow/Simpson - they are needed whilst the young guns actually get some size on them and learn to play AFL. Wouldn't blink if Gibbs was traded - all the half steppers have to go.

I wouldn't disagree with all of that statement, but to say Kreuzer will improve over the next 4-5 years is a little optimistic. I love the bloke as a player, but he will not getting better come 2021-22

He doesnt have to get better - on current form he is one fo the better ruck/rovers going around.

Haven't watched Grigg or Garlett play this year obviously, not to worry.
Grigg butchers the ball, would be similar to Kerridge, left out due to poor disposal.

Garlett may get a game because we lack in this area, can't imagine Bolton putting up with his fading in and out of games. May not get a run because of this. Can be conditional, brilliant when he is on, may not fit the current game plan.

Grigg has been very good this year in a finals-bound team, to compare him to Kerridge is seriously ridiculous.

Garlett's pressure has been outstanding in 2017, slight upgrade on a Sumner or Fisher's 8 disposal game across half forward.

I get that people are pissed at Grigg for leaving but he's a pretty solid footballer these days, let's get real.

Reckon Grigg hit more Blues players on the chest in the 2 seasons after he left than he did in his career at the club. Maybe I haven't moved on yet.

Garlett has been good, when he wants to. That would see him at the Northern Blues these days. Dees can afford to carry him when he is not on, we cannot.

Do Garlett, Robinson, Waite and Laidler count? What about Grigg?
Garlett - conditional
Robinson - poor disposal and decision making
Waite - injury and brain fade prone
Laidler - one dimensional and slow
Grigg - poor disposal

They may well all be getting games for us, but I'm glad we haven't any of them for different reasons.

Now I am confused, is he going t get better or isn't he?

I think he will get better and I also think he doesn't have to get better to continue being one of the mosty important playes for us - hope this helps.

Sam Jacobs would get a run with us.
True, Jacobs wasn't an outcast though. We traded him after making it clear he was surplus to requirements at the time and he decided to get more game time closer to home.

Very true, unfortunately he based that decision, once we targeted/acquired Warnock. A guy that was known to be lazy and have a poor work ethic. Only bloke that got shorter when he jumped.

I am confident, our current structure will never allow those decisions to be made again

Let's hope so

Jumping the gun on McKay I reckon, Windy. Bottom age player who spent effectively the whole first season on the list injured, barely getting up for a game in the VFL. This season is his first with continuity, and for a 19 year old 200cm forward, he's showing good improvement in both his body and play.

Even if he weren't injured, I wouldn't be concerned about him not getting a game yet. He is a long term player, no doubt.

I could be criticised for "jumping the gun" in expecting him to become a 50 goals plus a season player for 10 plus years (as I explicitly stated in my post) but I don't think that is how you are suggesting I am jumping. We are in furious agreement.

Geez, I did my half year review on 30 May (post 49) and first game after the break it is already out of date because there is no mention of The Beast.

I have been dismissively critical of Jones coming to us on more than a 1 year contract (he was intended to be an instant injection to save MM). I have been dismissively critical of every senior game he has played for us (including the multiple goal game against Freo) so it is delightful to admit he has taken one very big step in his game against GWS to shove my opinion where it fits. I couldn't be happier to be proven wrong by him towelling Lynch this week.

More importantly, that Jones might have become a useful (dare I suggest valuable) AFL player tells me more than any anecdote about the coaching program we have under BB. It is NOT just or even mainly about recruiting the best players. The main path to winning a flag is getting the most out of the players available. BB seems to have that Midas touch. Break-out games to Jones and Cuningham in round 12 after all the break-out games for other players already this season has me leaping with joy (and hope).

On a re-read, it appears I misunderstood your inferences.

6.5/10 (Credit) - sound theory but unclear writing.

Great call Windy, not only is the nature of this season unpredictable, so is the unexpected levels of improvement from many players on our list, that once we drew a line through. I have been surprised and excited every week, with what is evolving. From this point on, win, lose or draw, I am sure we all all find exciting moments with this group, this season
