Midfield Rookies

We have four days until the season starts proper. Some people are going 5-0-5 and some 4-0-6 ( at least they are the most popular). Even with a 6 rookie midfield, choices need to be made. With limited rookies on other lines our midfield choices are critical for cash generation and ultimately the success of our SC year.

Which ones will you choose and which ones will you leave out? And more importantly WHY?

I've gone with Tyson, Michie, Ellis, Polec, Dunstan and Crouch at this stage. I'd like to go Crouch to Aish but I just can't justify another 70k on midfield rookies. I had Aish in my first team but others have overtaken him during the preseason. I may consider Tyson to Aish to free up 30k but that's unlikely at this stage.

I get the feeling this decision will make or breaks teams this year and cost corrective trades if wrong decisions are made (think Olly Wines/Matt Jones/Dean Terlich last year - although fortunately I started with 2 of those 3)

As I said in the other thread, Michie scored 80+ in two games without being sighted. So much upside it's not funny and he has an older, more mature body. Couldn't select Langdon at M10 over Crouch and Robertson, even with the DPP. If it gets to the point where I need that DPP link I'd rather cash in Crouch or Robertson for a non-playing DPP and then utilise the DPP swap at that time. Cash generation is everything in this game.

I'm the same but swap Tyson > Robertson. 4-0-6

* I only squeezed Tyson out to Michie this morning so I could get B.Martin into D7. I'd like to get Aish in at M9 but can't quite make it fit at the moment.

It's more questionable than Ellis and he's more expensive so can't have Sheed.

Yes it is. He could be this season's Andrew Gaff for us with a few green vests early on. Ellis should be entrenched in our best 22 but may be a red vest candidate early on. I'd much rather Ellis than Sheed at the moment.

I have exactly the same six rookies as you. Only 1 starting rookie in def (Mcdonald)and none in fwd line but I am taking a couple of risks on cheap players there. My other mids at this stage are Pendles, Rocky, Cotchin and Beams, though with the rumour of a mnior injury to Cotch, I'm probably gonna swap him for Libba.

I'm back to 4-1-5 atm with Daisy's value proving hard to pass up. There are 7 midfield rookies I'm tossing up between ... Tyson, Michie, Polec, Ellis, Dunstan, Cunningham and Crouch. I'd love them all but a choice will have to be made. If Cunningham and Polec play in the first week they'll have to be included in case any of the other's aren't selected. Hopefully we'll see if the others are picked before the Adelaide match is locked out.

Word around that with Claye Beams sidelines the next best working Lions cub should be seeing more game time (Robertson) with Aish apparently a lock to be playing anyways however his price tag is warding people off him.

I was more referring to guys like Rohan (very likely), Laidler (possibly), Zach Merret (possibly), Dunstan (possibly), Crouch (possibly), JKH (possibly), Impey (possibly), McCarthy (very likely), Langdon (very likely), Robertson (possibly).

The joys of Supercoach is guessing what the coaches are thinking, then actually correctly guessing the rookies that are to do well is a bonus.

The saints have no midfield at the moment besides Armitage.
