I just thought the sensational efforts of Milney needed to be mentioned. Five stunning goals against the Weagles from his first eight kicks - great effort!

That takes his tally to 23 goals for the year, and I must apologise to Farmer and Matera but surely he now replaces them as the best small forward in the league.

BTW, I do say that with the assumption the Brent Harvey is more of a midfield type.

He is a revelation up in the forward line and is going to enjoy his time underneath Stewie, Spider, hamill and Riewoldt.

Good work milney:D

Also for the title of best small foward in the league, think about Leon Davis. 8 goals in 2 weeks. Good effort Magic.

I don't like Steven Milne. Farmer and Phil Matera do the miraculous goals and work hard for the ball. Milne is a sheep dog, get's the easy goal then celebrates like his is sensational or something.

He is not in their league. Wait till he dominates and kicks 74 in a season like Farmer, then we can talk.

Have you watched him play a game of football?

I've said enough about Milne to last a lifetime (as quite a few posters will attest too) so I'll just agree with the above posters except for CFH

Of course I have seen him play!

Basically what I am trying to say is that he is not as good as everyone builds him up to be, and that he is no in the class of a Farmer. He never will be. I would say the likes of Welsh and Vardy are better than Milne.
 
Milne is an annoying pain in the arse. However, he is a pretty good player, kicks a few goals and does like to celebrate and i wouldn't mind him sitting in a forward pocket at the Power. He is the type of player you hate playing against but love having him in your team. Much the same class as a Burns, Farmer or L. Davis. To me he is a little more consitent for this early in his career, is that a fair assesment?

Except Vardy and Welsh are mid-sized players that can take an overhead mark and rely on completely different attributes to Milne.

Milne is an excitement machine. No one is saying he's a champion or anything like that. He gets to the bottom of packs, weaves in and out traffic and makes things happen. He's one of those players that's just a little different and probably makes watching our games interesting to neutral supporters. The fact he's been in the system for so long, as a top-up player and on the rookie list before getting his chance just makes his story so good.

You are wrong that he simply kicks the easy goal. He works as hard as any player on the ground. If you're at a game watch how much work he actually does in the forward line.

I'd say he is kicking goals on a far more consistent basis than Farmer and Burns at the moment although both those guys have gone through periods of great consistency for small forwards. It's the nature of the position that you go missing sometimes for weeks on end.

I love watching him play (as I do Farmer and Burns) due to his unpredictability - I can't believe some of the messes he gets himself in (and out of).
 
He is annoying, but oh so exciting. Fortunately did squat against the Pies so I like him more than I could.:)

Milne is very good but you cant really compare him to guys like Matera, Farmer, Burns etc as they have been doing it year in year out for a long time. Right now he isnt the best small forward in the comp, however he is probably the most in form goal sneak in the comp right now.

Some of the stats of small forwards this year. Seen as im a WC supporter id also like to add that Matera has missed two games :D

Akermanis has kicked 17 goals from the midfield, Wirrpunda 15, Voss 15....

He plays more in the forward line than the midfield anyways, Freo are wasting him in the middle.

Milne is averaging 2.3 goals a game, Phil Matera is averaging 2.25 goals a game Jod. :)

Obviously Milne hasn't achieved as much as the players you have mentioned at this stage of his career. Probably has something to do with the fact that Sunday's game was only his 27th match. We don't know what will happen in the future but I'm very hopeful that he will be compared very favourably to those sort of players in 3 years time. There is also a suggestion he may turned into a goal kicking midfielder in the future.

Peter Burgoyne has to mentioned as well...his form has been as good as any other small forward/midfielder. Hes kicked 18 goals this year and has been in our best a number of times and has had a lot of the ball.

No doubt he will be compared to these guys very soon...he is a fantastic talent. But guys like Farmer, Matera etc have history on there side. Wonder if Milne or Matera will get more goals come seasons end?

Fair enough. I just thought that if you are going to say that the likes of Farmer and Matera are better that I should make it known that Milne is by far the youngest and most inexperienced of that group.

If our forward line can continue to function with the likes of Everitt, Loewe, Riewoldt and Hamill as marking targets then that should hopefully help to bring Milne into the game as a crumbing forward even more. Perhaps Matera may suffer slightly by not having a target like Wilson to crumb from anymore. I remember how well Phil Matera used to work with Scotty Cummings when he was at the club.
