Do we have any coaching staff that actually train our players in how to "win" games. We can have all the skill in the world but we just didn't look like we could be bothered today even when we were ahead.

This is a mindset issue and the guys need to be taught this  but the big question is, who can do this.

But the players have atrocious skills as well..... :thumbsd: the head stuff can only come after they learn to hit a target.

Thanks IP, The players skills are crap - it only varies by how crappy it is.

My girlfriends daughter,loved Tarrant.
But his kicking was nochalant today. Not good.

I said in another thread that in the warm ups, u guys looked like you had already lost it, u were there but not really.Hollow,no passion, talking. nothing going through the motions.

This is the one area that you need to fix and now.

I think we need more coaches. It's clear that our current crop are missing some of the fundamentals of the game.

For instance, we should get a 'Don't kick to 2 on 1 coach'. His job would be to ensure that players do not kick to a contest where there are 2 or more opposition players and only 1 Freo player. Given this happened 20-odd times today, in some cases under no pressure, it's obvious that it's an area that needs work.

We also could use a 'Tap to the guy in the purple jumper coach'. Our ruck coach is clearly too busy with other parts of ruckwork to worry about whether our ruckmen actually tap the ball to a teammate. The addition of this coach should fix up this problem.

I would also suggest a 'Hit the target from 25 metres under no pressure coach'. Pretty self explanatory.

I beg to differ...after watching Matt Carr, it is the 3 on 1 rule.

We have had an average ruck coach for about 4 yrs now. If you are investing $1.5M over 3 yrs in a ruckman then you should be getting a top shelf rucking coach to develop him.

I think the dockers were always wanting to head towards the NFL model where there is one coach for every two players

I think you have to get the ' near enough is good enough ' attitude out of the whole club.

You don't seem to have the hunger in your playing group to want to do it as a group themselves, bugger the coaches etc, they are the ones on the ground who should walk over hot coals for each other, do whatever it takes to win that match.

I remember Simon Black saying something similar in the middle of our 3peat.He would do anything for these guys

Your players need to find that, need, hunger.Team ethos at all costs.

Rob, this has to be one of the best posts ever, very insightful! perhaps Freo also need tackling and running coachs, clearly they don't have them at present?

I'd get a coach that plays a bloke that got 37 touches in the WAFL and dumps a bloke that didn't get a kick. That'd be radical.
