Hawthorn get on ok with only a couple of KPD.
We also did alright last year when we played only schofield and glass due to injuries to brown and macca, it is not our preferred option and the Hawks would probably play one if they had a good one. In the last 2 weeks both Darling and cloke have taken schoenmakers to the cleaners but the rest of their team is so good it had little impact.

I would absolutely do this! There's plenty of young-middle age KPDs around not getting a game that we could get cheapish..
Get Trent Carroll back out of retirement....

GWS would be crazy to do this surely.

Couldn't they get a top 8 pick for MD2? surely Brown is not worth that?

I would presume it would be Brown plus out 1st RD pick (14-18)

I would still do this trade in a heart beat, quality Bigs dont grow on trees. Give a little now for a big gain in the future

Yep, this isn't even a question. You do the trade. I like Mitch Brown and think he would be more than able to replace Glass upon his retirement. BUT, we are essentially gaining a top 5 draft pick, for what is now essentially a depth player. It's a no-brainer.

Pick up defensive cover from elsewhere or develop from within our own ranks (Fraser).

If this is true and I do have my doubts, this trade just must happen.

Hell if we're really short down back lynch has played there...horribly, but it's something. A top 5 (essentially) pick is too good to give up.

I hear gold coast want Nathan Brown for Caddy, Brown is the flavour of the month...

With Tarrant retiring N.Brown not going anywhere.

If we used our Brown in a trade for a mini selection I would love to get Hogan, can play anywhere on the ground, he and Darling at CHF & CHB would be an insane combination and like Darling could play from day dot.

Yes, we would need to get some backup mature key defenders, perhaps one on the main list, one on the rookie list.

Can we have more info on Hogan?

I'm pretty sure that by someone's sixth season of league footy (and yeah, I know about injuries), we can forget about the upside and just go on performance.

Well then
Brown for mini-draft pick 2 = recruitment of future gun midfielder
Stevens + 2nd round pick for Hooker

That is one scenario where we don't lose depth in backline whilst recruiting for the future.
Plus we'd still have our 1st round pick available.
This is all, of course, based on the OP's rumour.
If I recall correctly there were rumours last year that we'd make a play for the mini-draft.
This did not eventuate.

I rate Hooker as better than Brown (particularly if he is 2nd KPD behind Mackenzie) so would be perfectly satisfied with the above transfers.

Jesse Hogan, Claremont, 12 February 1995, 193cm, 91kg
Jesse is a powerful key forward/defender in the mould of Jonathan Brown. He's good overhead and very explosive off the mark for his size. We almost considered playing him in our under-18s team as a 16-year-old. He'd be in the top two or three players in the WAFL colts competition. He falls into the GWS mini-draft pool.

Like Jack was selected in the AA in a key post as an underage, albeit as a key defender, though he played the carnival at CHF and does a fair bit of rucking.

He's a good kid, reckon he still has some growth in him too.

This is the alternative - mini-draft pick for perhaps best available.
In which case our first round pick most definitely should be used for a midfielder.

Was told today GWS are making a big play for Mitch Brown and are prepared to give a minidraft pick to get him.
Looks like they are offering the second minidraft pick for Mitch Brown.
Also Mitch's girlfriend as attracted interest from the sydney swifts netball side, so he could be amenable to a move.
Was told WCE said they would wait to after the finals to negotiate, but ideally wanted to keep Brown.

I think that would be a mistake as we could use Fraser McInnes as a defender, and pick up a Hogan
as a foward replacement, and Hogan looks pretty special.

What else do we have to give up along with Brown?

Have you heard who we would like to take with the 2nd MD out of Hogan/Martin/Sheed?

Melbourne are very keen on Hogan and might go after him via the 1st MD pick.

'Best' is subjective.

This is clarified with "perhaps", hence making my statement unclear because I haven't been tracking the U17s myself.
I would assume that because we have enough tall forwards to lease out to teams like PA/Dogs that we'd only consider Hogan because he really is the best available.
Moving ahead our needs are much more tailored for quality midfielders, which there are a few available in the mini-draft.
So you tell me, you posted Hogan, if we were to receive the 2nd mini-draft pick is he the best use of this pick?
