This year and right now, Minson. Overall, tough call as Goldstein is still young (for a ruckman).

Minson is at the peak of his career but is three years older than Goldstein, who is playing great footy. Three years ago Minson was fairly average, so it's all about how Goldstein develops and if Minson can maintain his form. We've seen with guys like Jamar that it might not last.

Summed it up pretty well.

I would put Minson ahead this year. Had a great year and deserved AA.

Goldstein needs to toughen up a bit and start standing tall around the ground. He is pushed around far too easily for someone his size.

However, he is clearly the better tap ruckman to his mids for first use, and I would argue more important to his team. If he fixes the former, he will be the better ruckman in future years.

How do you come up with his?

Did you watch any Bulldogs games at all? Or even look at the clearance stats of Minson and our midfield?

Minson lead the league in hitouts and hitouts to advantage. And he has that aggression Goldstein is lacking.

So really you'd hope Goldstein is as good a ruckman as Minson when he is 27. He has the tools to be but at the moment he isn't.

I came up with it because from what I've seen of both ruckman, Goldstein is clearly better when tapping to advantage. I prefer to watch games than rely on stats, as for example, Nth have multiple players with good DE% yet in reality they have poor disposal. Goldstein feeds his mids better than any other ruckman in the comp IMO.

I agree about aggression for sure, Goldstein could look at Minson's approach on that.

But no, I would think if Goldstein improves around the ground he clearly goes in front of Minson.

DE is a different stat to hitouts to advantage, much more flawed. So basically you are saying "yeah I know Minson hits it to his midfielders more than Goldstein, but Goldstein is better than him at doing that."

Giving his midfielders first use of the ball is Minson's strength, and a big part of why Liberatore and Griffen were so good this year.

I'd like to see more than one really good season from Minson, then the comparisons to Goldstein can be warranted. Maybe cut back on the free-kicks and clangers too.

he was pretty good last year too.

Liberatore leading the comp in clearances as a 21 year old kid tells me Minson is the better tap ruckman

Im not sure where this, Goldstein "might be at Minson's level in a few years" stuff is coming from.

I think people forget Goldstein was robbed of an AA gurnsey in 2011. There was stuff all between them statistically all year. Champion data had Goldstein ahead fwiw.

For all this aggression garbage, you'd think Minson would be a better mark. He's easily the worst mark of the top 10 ruckman.

Goldstein with 7 votes to Minson's 2 if it means anything.

If Goldstein isn't as good as Minson is now, he would have stagnated pretty badly.

Player in bottom four side doesn't poll well in the brownlow, that's shocking. In this case it means little. I mean, look at Griffen - he was rated as a top five mid this year but polled very little.

On Goldstein stagnating - it's quite possible, he doesn't look like he has much drive to get better in his game. Looks happy to sit on his talent, rather than really put in.

At the same age Minson could have easily been delisted.
