Inspired by the Feminism - over it thread. Misogyny seems to be creeping back into vogue amongthe sections of society you'd expect (conservative middle aged white men, neckbeards, social outcasts, professional video game enthusiasts on welfare and bitter men who have come out the wrong side of a relationship).

I've noticed most of the blokes who are truly anti-feminist, are severely lacking in intelligence.

Likewise, there is a movement termed "Men's Rights Activism" which is for the most part a cover for misogynists to whinge that they don't have total hegemony over society and women anymore.

Its the symbol of an online cult known as Men Going Their Own Way, one of the most reprehensible online forums around. Under the guise of promoting men's rights, this community has taken things to another level by pledging individually to avoid all contact with women in every facet of life where possible. Its a vow of celibacy taken by men who statistically speakjing probably wouldn't be getting laid much anyway. Have a quick browse of their forum and you'll see constant uses of the terms ****, bitch, gold digger, whore, campaigner etc. all while the members of said forum have a huge circle jerk over how evil women are. I'm not exaggerating here, this group literally believes that all women conspire to subjugate men.

Its awful of course. But it is interesting to see how some people can really fail to grasp that with real equality yes, white conservative men will have to give up some of that power that they did nothing to earn other than being born with a penis. In times past, a man could probably get a good wife by simply having a job as the woman would likely need to marry out of necessity and cultural norms. Those days are long past with young women being able to decide whether they get married (or stay married to an abusive man) or refuse their husband's sexual advances (yeah it was totally legal to rape your wife in Australia until relatively recently).

Rather than realise they are misogynyists and try and understand what equal rights really looks like, these recalcitrants are lobbying hard for a return to the days when women were forcibly married off through financial subjugation. They may not realise this is what they're advocating for, but its a sick movement that makes some incredibly outrageous claims (e.g. that men are r*ped more regularly than women, that feminisim is occult, that men and undervalued in society etc).

In year's past these kind of guys would have usually either gone postal or just done the right thing and removed themselves from the community entirely. Now they can play together online and reinforce their sick beliefs. Im not sure that's a good thing, but its better than having them go all Anders Brevik on us at least.

Obviously equality needs to apply to everyone, but when you're part of the powerful group (white men), agreeing with equality generally means you're going to have to work for things a little more. Its just logical. What these guys need to really do is just be open and honest that they're essentially religious extermists who want women subjugated again (and probably black's and irish too), not hide under the guise of any kind of legitimate social movement. Nothing wrong with raising questions about father's rights to access their children after a divorce, or about a lack of male teacher's in the state school system and the falling grades of young boys, or legitimate social questions along those lines. But using it as a front for the above named forum and its degenerate members is taking things a bit far.

Anyway, their forum is good for a laugh in any case. These guys make extreme feminists look sane and rational.

No doubt their confidence was boosted by Abbott's election victory though. Very sick of their childish sooking though.

Not going to bother to actually look at the forum because if your comments about their comments are correct they do sound like men who have lost women and havent grown up and got over it, and/or are gay men in denial.

Ive always held the view that its actually women who hold the power, be it mentally or emotionally. Women are more honest about who they are... And Im not talking the Nerang type woman with blue hair and neck tatts who doesnt believe she is a bogan. A bogan is a bogan is a bogan no matter what sex. And there are plenty of stupid facetious women out there. And just as many men... Maybe more so due to their belief of entitlement.

1. What kind of woman they deserve
2. What kind of behaviour is going to produce a healthy relationship
3. Their ownership of a woman as a toy rather than as a person

They're hardly deciding for themselves. It's the basis of their employment that they objectify themselves.

Its saying "Here, women suck at sports but ogle these **** and asses because if you're not good at sports you can at least be attractive". Pure objectification.

I mean, let's ignore the problems of sexism in Aboriginal culture…or say, many Asian cultures, or Middle Eastern cultures, or in African American culture, or in etc etc. For ****s sake, Rick, I know you wanna put that culture studies degree to good use and you wanna try to convince yourself that it was all worth it and I know, I know, you want as many gender-studies students to give you cheeky bj's and wristies after class as you wax lyrical about 'male-gaze' and the bechdel test, but if you really wanna have a discussion about sexism and the issues that affect women, why don't you drop your bullshit and actually speak insightfully about the issues that affect all cultures in regards to misogyny? If you want to tackle Australia more specifically, then let's have a proper discussion about the myriad issues surrounding misogyny in Aboriginal cultures, an ongoing problem with far more long-reaching issues than Lingerie Football. Let's discuss it along side the sexism of 'old white men', let's discuss ways that we can really, properly tackle issues that face women worldwide, and what solutions we can start to implement and whether they're affective or correct (quotas for example, not something I agree with, but a worthy discussion point). Hell, instead of pigeonholing let's discuss all gender-based issues, like mental health in Men, and the ongoing problems of recognition with it. **** it, let's get super philosophical and talk about whether or not 'objectifying' in the way you use it is really that bad, if it is, what's its major lasting negative impacts? Is it wrong to sexualise for advertisement? If so, this is an issue that affects men too. Let's talk insightfully about the hundreds of different ****ing topics that'd actually have some relevance to the world.

But no, instead, you pick out some nut job easy targets, once again overuse the term 'old white men', offer some nice platitudes, and make some smug little dig at Abbott, because that's easier, and because you've always been a pretty sad excuse for an intellectual with little to no grasp on economics, history, politics or philosophy of any kind.

I think you're missing the point that the thread is about post-feminist movement misogyny masquerading as 'men's rights'. It simply doesn't occur in those countries because for the most part they haven't even had an initial feminist movement.

Go check that forum out and see how many non whites are on there. See the racism that seems to go hand in hand with the sexism. Yes they're an easy target, but I've never been to avoid laying the boot into someone when they're deservedly down.

I hear ya. What a boring crusade to support any feminism. Sure all tokens of support are worth it for a socially constructive cause. But I've always thought Lily Allen was a pain in the arse, and a person who was basically always more concerned with her image than anything. This is just cashing in on an obvious point with fashionably easy targets. It's not this uber imaginative, pioneering, revolutionary piece of art.
