Bumped Missing Tackles - Missing Targets

That feeds into the question I've just asked of Phone.

Ask yourself how and where this began. Was it all Lovett's fault, or did other people at the club piss him off just as much as he did them?

Of course people lose patience with a bloke if he keeps screwing up. But why did he keep screwing up? And would this sort of thing happened under Bomber at Geelong, or would the kind of thing that was done to Stevie J down there have happened instead?

And how on earth did anyone possibly think that attempting to ship him off (without even raising the issue with him first, and then bungling the whole thing horribly) in 2008 was going to make the situation any better?

There are a million questions still hanging here. To say it's entirely and completely due to Lovett is ridiculous, frankly.

It began when he first got to the club, he was in and out of the side after a good first year when he got a bit of a big head. He moved in with Quin for a while so they could get his mind right under Sheedy and was given several chances, his first year with Knights he had his hand held by the coach but still kept stuffing up and then he blew his chance with the Saints. He missed training, he went out on the booze, he has a history of treating women like shit and has a reputation for having an ego bigger than the universe.

To say it is ridiculous to think it is all his fault just shows how little you understand all the facts. If it was one coach then maybe but 3 coaches over 2 clubs .....
They guy should have come into the AFL via the TAC Cup but he stuffed that up as well.

Ever heard of the chicken and the egg, though?

Sure, he wasn't a saint (no pun intended) - but do you think it was all one way?

And why was he so much more of a tool (allegedly) under Knights than he had been before? Do you reckon the two things were unrelated?

...well yeah. i mean he's in court facing trial for raping a girl, there was that other girlfriend thing, all the times he didn't turn up to training etc.

I know this is a bit off topic but going back to missing targets, I really think we should go for Andrew Gaff from the eagles. Being from Perth ive seen him play in the WAFL and as a sub for the eagles, his pressure is great and also he has great disposal when he gets the ball. Seems like a player we could use in the midfield and he can only get better. I know he is probaly still contracted to the eagles but he would be a great pick up. From Victoria too which helps!

Very very good player, no hope of the Eagles letting him go.

I think we could have definitely handled the Lovett situation better.

That's not to say that Knights completely mismanaged it, but there were better ways to assess and confront it.

In the end, though, I don't think we had much choice. The players were just as disillusioned with Andrew as the coaches were.

Yeah but we can only hope! We did have a meeting with him in Perth when we played the dockers. But your right, eagles would be stupid to let such a talent leave.

You cant say that - SJ will be on your case - Remember high draft picks dont leave after their first contract.;)

Leaving aside what happened after we got rid, he was reputedly shocking on the track, repeatedly a w***er in the pub, inconsistent on the park and had lost all the players, even his cousin.
He took 2 coaches for a ride for 5 odd years until Knights finally had the balls to do the right thing and F him off.
Club went far above & beyond, no stone unturned.

People act like he messed up once and got cut. He messed up regularly every year he was there, and we gave him a choice of clubs to get to and we got the deal over the line.
Just a waster.
Move on.

Eugh. All I said was that we could have handled the situation better, not that he isn't a w***er and Knights is a douche.

And we could have. Move on.

Interested to know how?
We got a good pick for him, we made sure he was employed. Win-win for mine.

I've seen it suggested we should we have kept dedicating our resources to looking after him? I think that's rubbish, that was St K's duty (if anyone's)

Getting back to tackles one obvious reason why we are not going as well, we now rate last in the leauge for tackles over the last 5 weeks

The worst thing is, these 'missed tackles' are leading directlly to scores. Be it from the midfield, the deffensive hallf or the forward half.

Didn't we rate highly for tackles in 2010 - But were still crap.

Please don't talk sense. It's completely unwelcome and inappropriate here.

It's much easier to completely slag a guy who had severe clinical depression, and was given glowing character references as a fantastic person by the likes of Kevin Sheedy and James Hird. Blokes who would happen to know a lot more about Andrew Lovett and his character (and what he'd been through) than most of us.

Yeah raping* a girl, and locking another in your car just screams "top bloke" doesn't it.

Where did I ever say he hadn't screwed up at times?

And do you not get that your consistent references to what happened to him at St Kilda actually lend weight to my argument?

Anyway, ffs ... who cares any more? You have your opinion (as do others who think personal denigration is the best way of dealing with this), I have mine.

How about we all move on?

knights went out on a limb for Lovett. He tried to mentor him and do everything he could for him in order to help Lovett improve as a person.

The only way you could possibly say that it could have been handled better is if they had of shown him the door earlier but Knights thought he could help him.

Getting back on subject of this thread, I felt from the second minute of the game that Hawthorn's basic skills of kicking and marking were really good. Maybe the replay of this game would show our guys how it should be done: great kicking, marking, tackling, running.

That's what happens when you get older, you lose that 10 mtrs in your kick, get what you can for Sidebottom now, or at the very least get his money off the cap.
