Clark would be a great addition. Plus it would give Hawkins an example of a big player that plays with some mongrel. We'd have to give up something decent that Brisbane actually need to get this trade done, it wouldn't be a cheap trade. Plus, Clark would have to want to come to Geelong and he's a WA boy originally.

I know this will sound crazy, but if we could convince JC (and we couldn't) then he's the sort of player they need. They've lost Rischitelli (not like JC, I know) and Brennan (a lot like JC) and will be looking to shore up their mid stocks IMO.

Nobody is going to give up much for Corey now, he's played his best footy and now has suspect knees. Might as well just keep him on for another year.

I think you're right. We don't have a player to offer Brisbane to get the Clark trade done (assuming the two players both wanted to move). Djerrkura is off to the Dogs, and I doubt they'd have much interest in Gamble.

The only thing we really have of any value are the picks from the Gaz trade. I think it'd be a great result if we were able to get Clark for one of those picks. The other way it might work (as the Lions will still need a ruck as well) is Blake and our compensation pick that comes after our normal first round pick for Clark and their 1nd round compensation pick for Rischitelli that comes at the end of the 1st round.

sounds like you come from the Michael Voss school of team/personnel management :thumbsd: Trading people like Joel Corey is not the way to go.

The lions would only consider draft picks...so unless the cats can come up with a very good pick there is no way the lions would look a trading with the cats for a bunch of recycled players...Last year it may of worked, but this year John Reid is overseeing things...and we all know how hard it was to trade with the crows while he was there

Sorry, I'm not suggesting we trade JC. I'm saying that to get a trade done using personnel that we'd need to offer Brisbane something they'd want and can use, and they'd want a fit Corey given their exodus of mids. That's why I said they might be a little interested in Blake given they're losing Clark.

We can only hope mate!!

Would Leuenberger and Charman share the rucking duties for the Lions on their own?

Pick 7 would get it done, surely? Just a question if we can meet Clark's requirements, and if he'd be happy in Geelong as opposed to heading back to WA ;)

Happily use one of the picks we got for Gazza.

Or, we could trade our first round pick from this years draft, given than we can use the picks we got for Gaz in a stronger draft....

Mitch Clark is a tough, durable and mobile 200cm Ruckmen/Utility. He had a good season at CHB before a breakout season as a ruckmen. He has also spent time as a key forward with success as well.

He would be extremely useful. He could play as 1st ruck, he could replace Lonergan in the backline, he could replace Hawkins as ruck/forward or play as a permanent forward ahead of Mooney/Pods/Hawkins.

We got Ottens for pick 12 & 14 and I think Clark is a little bit better. IMO a dream would be:

Mackie to Gold Coast for pick #15

Pick #15 + 1 x compo pick to Brisbane for Mitch Clark.

God, if we only got 2 lousy 1st round picks for the best player in the competition, the AFL should force Brisbane to trade Clark for one of those picks.

......I can dream cant I....?!

I would have thought that Mackie alone would have been enough if we were going to go down that route. You could throw in Blake as a sweetener if required. I would preferably want to keep our compensation picks for kids.

Firstly, Brisbane according to reports aren't keen to trade him. At trade time this simply means give us a good price or we'll run the risk.

Fremantle are going to find it hard to give Brisbane anything worthwhile. They obviously have a late first rounder and are going to find it hard to acquire another first rounder. The minimum for Clark is realistically two first rounders and I doubt Fremantle have the ability to do that this year.

Geelong certainly can give them two first rounders (admittedly at least one will be in a future draft) but whether they will or not is the issue. I don't doubt they will have a crack as Clark fits the build as a player that can help Geelong have a crack in 2011 but also helps them build towards a future. A spine of Harry Taylor, Joel Selwood, Mitchell Clark and Tom Hawkins is reasonable. Chuck in a few guys like Menzel, Duncan, Brown, Gilles, Taylor Hunt etc and Geelong have somewhat of a reasonable rebuild going on. Whether its a B grade rebuild or an A grade rebuild is really the question and that will only be answered in time.

I think we should try everything we can to convince this guy to come to Geelong especially if Ottens retires. Turns 23 later this month and will be coming into his prime in the next few years.

Trouble is, Hutchy mentioned he wanted to go home (he is from Fremantle) so I think our chances are slim.

Is Mitch Clark injury-prone? 65 games played in 5 seasons.

If we were convinced about his durability, he would be a massive addition.

He is the perfect replacement for Ottens: A big man who can carry the ruck, plus also play a key position. None of our current big men (apart from Otto) have that combo.

The 2 most difficult retirees to replace over the next few years will be Ottens and Scarlett. Clark would cover Ottens nicely.

Doubtful that it would/could happen, but the Ablett picks at least put us in with a chance. I would suggest that if he is truly available that we would be pursuing him.

I would be dissapointed if we didn't at least make a play for him. He was pretty dominant in 2009. I guess we can blame this season on the Supercoach Voss.

I would be happy to overpay on the trade table for this guy. We did not draft a single good ruckman last decade  No offense to the current unproven lads.

Dont want to lose any of our Gazza picks for him, Wells built a great team without using a pick below 7 lets use a couple of higher ones as well this time. I think unless they're happy for a 2 for 1 deal with Blake/Djerkurra/Gamble/Lonergan/2nd round draft pick it wont happen. If we're desperate for him may see Byrnes, Hawkins or Stokes thrown into the mix as well.

Would definitely consider trading a player like Mackie, Lonergan or Hunt to the gold coast for one of their first rounders in order to make this happen. I think the time to get value for some of our middle of the road ageing players (or guys that just aren't up to it) is now. I'd like to see us be pretty ruthless at the trade table to get whatever value we can and start rebuilding. That means players like Mackie, Lonergan, J Hunt, Mooney, Pods, Byrnes, Gamble, Blake, West and Wojcinski should all be on the table if the right deal comes up. The legends of the club and the guys retiring or close to it should be kept to teach the young guys the game. The only ones that are really hands off are the ones that will still be in their prime in 4-5 years such as Taylor, Varcoe, Hawkins and Selwood. Clark's quality and still young so he fits the bill perfectly for a trade.

If only they'd take Blake, Stokes and Gamble!

I guess it would take a decent pick - probably the Ablett-compo pick that enables you to have another pick after your existing first rounder (if indeed it can be traded so another club gets the same effect). I'd more than happily give that up for Clark.

He is the ruckman that we need and something I would definitely trade for.

But as far as I understand he has a young family (I think?) and wants to go home so I'd say we're no chance, but there's no harm in making an enquiry.

Re: Mitch Clarke

Would be a perfect pickup for us IMO.

Would Brisbane be interested in Blake / Djerrkura / Gamble?

No, they've got salary cap problems so they'd rather draft picks than fringe players and they do have other ruckmen so they wouldn't want Blake.

We should offer one of the Ablett picks (there's a report in the HS saying they're going to accept the WB compo pick for Sherman, so they're obviously not averse to the idea of taking a pick they can't use til 2012) + 23, that should be close to a deal...however like I said, can't see him wanting to come here rather than home.
