Unless he is tearing the TFL to shreds I am not sure what he would offer over our growing pile of question mark KPF's.
He pretty much is. Mature prospects that have gone on to have decent careers from Tassie (Howe and Hall) have previously been nowhere near as dominant in the TSL as Thorp this year.

Be interested to see how Thorp would go if he was healthy. Saw him pre Hawks and he was a beautiful mover. Came to Melbourne and was crippled.

Don't pretend to know the league at all, but do remember a pudgy Jason Laycock being the dominant big man in the league a couple of years back. Hard to get a read on how TFL form translates.

Very reliable Mail.

Obviously a huge need for a key forward.

Carlton looking at giving up as high as a third rounder for him

No chance of going in the 3rd Round. Rookie at best

The league is a joke down here. Its nothing to write home about that he is "tearing the comp up". There would be easily 8 teams outside the statewide league that would beat half the teams in the statewide league.

Footy in Tassie is on its knees thanks to the incompetence of the Muppets running it.

Not a fan of the idea but wouldn't surprise...we have been known to look for a quick fix on occasion. Unless he is tearing the TFL to shreds I am not sure what he would offer over our growing pile of question mark KPF's.

Has 55 goals in 15 games and has been named in the best in 11 of those games. Not sure how strong that league is but those are some impressive statistics.

Leading the TSL player of the year by a long way; has 29 votes with the next best 16. So he has been pretty dominant.

At AFL level I still think he is a big athletic high HHF. Not a KPF. He is 87kgs and 194. Thats similar to gunston.....

Has anyone on here who claims Thorp is an arrogant twit actually spoken to the bloke? He cops some unbelievable critiscm from so many people on here despite actually being a quiet and reserved person.

Spoke to him after one of his TSL games last year and he was a down to earth, approachable kind of bloke.

Hopefully he gets another chance and puts some egg on the face of all the non-believers on here.

IF he's playing midfield in the TFC seems to me like a poor man's Nick Riewoldt?

GWS even thought about drafting him but he failed the medical.

IIRC Jason had a pretty bad leg injury, missed virtually a whole season, then broke his foot in his comeback game and was delisted virtually immediately. Took a few years off and now plays very well - but is a lumberer only.

Everything I've heard post his stint away from the game has been so positive. Such a pity he couldn't have had this maturity when he came through juniors (and avoid all the injuries he suffered).

If he adjusts to the AFL environment, he'll be a bargain pickup, and provide regular AFL standard contributions. The risk will be covered in the first few weeks after drafting.

Not sure he was delisted immediately but his foot injury was/is pretty bad. I actually thought he was pretty talented but lacked the hardness needed to play at AFL level

Carlton should get Thorp and trade for Watts - would solve their forward line issues immediately. Waite cannot be relied upon and Krezuer is too valuable in the ruck.

They should also go after Silvagni and one of Pears or Hooker to sure up their backline.

Thorp, Watts, Silvani, Pears/Hooker are all in the right age bracket as well, and they all would be reasonably attainable without giving up their first rounder.

They would be a much better team IMO.

I think his comeback game was rd.19 or something - very late in the season anyway. He may well have been at the end of his contract so had to come back to 'earn' another one. (Similar to how Hawthorn gave Muston 4 seasons with 3 knee recos, but when he was injured again on the eve of finals, he informed the club he was going to "retire" rather than be delisted and then rookie listed).

He and Jack R were in the same u18 team and even though he was playing much better than Jack, our recruiters were supposedly told by the coach that Jack is the one we wanted because of attitude. Also know a guy who played against them and said Mitch was a bit of a knob.

A lot of players have attitude problems early and grow out of it, so his attitude could certainly have improved. Also you would find that a lot of players who have attitude problems towards their footy are still either good blokes off the field, or simply talk to fans because they know they have a responsibility to even if they don't like it.

And thats saying something, because Jack R isnt always shining example of appropriate attitude on field.
