Totally agree Rand, I wasn't trying to sound precious, I just think that the "proper environment" line was a bit off the mark.

The general consensus has always been that Mitch is Mitch's biggest fan, the second chance scenario will have put a massive dent in his ego, hopefully this works in Melbourne's favour, and he comes good for you guys.

I couldn't let this comment slide, what exactly defines a "proper environment"?

Fair point. I soughta explained this further in the with my next point. It was not a dig at Hawthorn or was it saying Melbourne was better. I was just saying going on the type of character he has, he requires one that suits that.

How was it off the mark? Made no inference to Hawthorn. So before getting all worked read the comment twice.

I'm hardly "worked" as you so obscurely put it.

I don't need to read your comment more than once, my comprehension is more than adequate thank you, and your meaning was quite clear, perhaps you should re-read what you typed?

To suggest that he is yet to find a "proper environment" is to question the one he was in up until this point.

I'm not big on this internet point scoring game, so let's move on shall we? this thread is dedicated to the bloke who's contract we payed out a year in advance, it's fair to seek answers to the obvious questions you may have, so let me point you in the direction of a thread that may offer some biased insight into his career thus far.

No need to thank me, but please refrain from insulting my intelligence. :p

Forgot to put "up"...

I made my point clear, you can ignor what i mean and make it something else if you like that is your choice to do so.

My point was on his under 18 and VFL days with the Devils as this the extent of my knowledge. Once again I made no inference to Hawthorn I merely suggested me needs an environment whch suits him to prosper.

Perhaps read things in context that they are written.

What environment has he just left?

Just go and read that link, I came here to offer insight, not butt heads.

Basically I see the Ball situation forcing our hand into 2 directions.

Ball chooses Dees:

Pick 11 best available KP Forward available
PSD Ball

Ball Chooses Saints:

Pick 11 next best player (mid or otherwise)
PSD Thorp

I say call his bluff. If Ball nominates for the ND we take him at 18, Thorpe in the PSD and Black at 11.

2009 draft period equals 2 best young mids, 2 KPF and we upgrade McLean with Ball.

note. I would not actually condone taking Ball in the ND if he went that way.

Andy, how dare you interrupt the girls while they are having a cat fight......

I think i got sucked in a little. Oh well. No claws from end , just would like to know what point Cheeseman is trying to make by continuously ignoring the meaning. This type of "discussion" just clogs up the board sometimes, though it is humourous to read. Better reading than "Australian Nation Parks and Protected Areas" by Figgis 1999.

If Thorp is as full of himself as we are lead to believe it will be interesting to see Col Sylvia and Mitch Thorp engage in a battle of wits.

I say first day at the club he goes in the ring with beamer!

This makes me think we may have gotten the hint from Ball's management... Thorp isn't a bad option. Lets see what we can develop him into, and if it doesn't work no harm done.

Thanks for posting that, interesting read. It is, as you indicate, a good snapshot into his career thus far. Some funny comments, circa 2007!

Yeah he is going to be a star for Hawthorn. Such a good selection.

i'm a crows fan but do live in vic & have seen this kid play & i believe he will be the best player from this draft he can run jump take a grab & kick a goal he is seriously special & your forward line in 2 years will be unstoppable

2nd best ever player to play the game Beau Muston the greatest!

Hindsight can be a cruel mistress, though.

I'm definitely in favour of having a go at him. Another top ten selection into the mix. If he keeps getting injured and does nothing, so be it. I don't think we'd have lost too much - we would only have some other spud at spot 42 (or whatever it is) on the list. And if by some chance he actually lives up to the 2007 hype... well, that'd just be sweet.

If that birchall comment earlier in the thread about "what number where you drafted?" is true, hopefully someone goes up to mitch on his first day asks him how many clubs have you been cut from?

Or better yet he just does some boxing training with our very own beamer:D

great news!! a younger and craper fevola

lol:D

the vfl version of fev?:D

just read on the herald sun website that Thorp is born on christmas day, prehaps he really does think he is the second coming of christ?

Possibly but also it may be a little nudge on such as fooking hurry up and make a decision, we are getting bored waiting. Plus guarantee if ball opts for the psd a couple of names will get dropped I reckon. I haven't heard to many takers for thorpe so maybe psd or late pick in the nd.

The famous 19 is back, and with a new face to accompany it.
Mitch Thorp comes with the promise and hype of a white Buddy Franklin.

He displays the skills and talent to succeed in the key position of CHF, but what he brings most is 'swagger'.
Yes sir, he's got it in spades and self belief too.

Drafted at pick 6 in the 2006 National Draft Mitch Thorp was seen by club officials as the perfect partner to our other brilliant forward Lance 'Buddy' Franklin.
Many believe that the Thorp/Franklin combination will intertwine and build like no other young combination in the game, with the two players feeding off each others natural ability and skill, firing the Hawthorn Football Club into finals contention for years to come.
Earmarked as our next genuine CHF, Thorp showed plenty of poise and confidence in his debut aganst Richmond in 2007 after playing on from a set shot to open the face of the goals before converting with ease. His straight up the ground leads were demanding attention and his willingness to be involved in every forward play was very encouraging for the 18yr old.

Injuries, that he has carried for the last 18 months, to his hip are the only thing holding him back from a full preseason and a very promising 2008.
He should be back in full training after Christmas, due to some surgery done in the last month or so that is hoped to have fixed any lingering problems with his hip joint.

well they certainly had raps on the kid...

Bob Dylan once sang "the times, they are a-changing". Ron Burgundy had never heard that song.

Hahaha lol:D:D:thumbsu:

I'd be happy with Thorp in the pre-season draft. Sure, he may have a bit of an attitude problem but if he kicks us some goals, that's what counts the most. We'll probably still pick a tall at 11 or 18 so not all of our key forwards hopes rest on Thorp (in terms of a partner for Watts).
